St Hugo Single Vineyard FABAL Barossa Valley Shiraz 2019 is a powerful and highly distinctive expression of premium Barossa Shiraz, sourced entirely from a single block within the FABAL vineyard in the north-western corner of the Barossa Valley. Sitting at approximately 325 metres elevation, the vineyard’s shallow red-brown topsoil over alkaline subsoil contributes to the structure, power and underlying minerality that define this limited-release wine.
The 2019 vintage produced naturally low yields, resulting in exceptional concentration and intensity. Following fermentation in open fermenters, the wine spent 17 months maturing in French oak, including 73% new oak, before further maturation in bottle prior to release.
Bright dark brick red in colour, the wine opens with an intriguing combination of earth, gravel, cured meats and creamy oak. The palate is opulent and densely layered, delivering poached red fruits with char, graphite and pencil-lead complexity. Silky texture and mouth-coating concentration are balanced by impressive structure and minerality, leading to a powerful, persistent finish with excellent longevity. Rated 95 Points by Dave Brookes for the Halliday Wine Companion and 95 Points by Andrew Caillard for The Vintage Journal, this multi-award-winning museum limited release comes from a 5 Red Star Halliday rated winery and offers an impressive opportunity to experience single-vineyard Barossa Shiraz with significant bottle development.

''Fruit sourced from the Fabal vineyard in the northwest of the Barossa Valley. It sits true to its northern roots with dense blackberry, black cherry and dark plum fruits that have a real flexing, inky tension to their form. Layers of baking spices, licorice, cedar, crème de cassis, earth, roasted nuts, vanillin oak and brandied fruits. There is a firmness and sinewy shape to the tannins, begging for time in the cellar and with that, you should be in for quite a treat indeed.''
