Tasting Notes:

St Hugo Signature Shiraz Cabernet 2009 is a beautifully matured Australian red bringing together powerful Barossa Shiraz and elegant Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon. Now a remarkable 17-year-old museum release, it offers the rare opportunity to experience an iconic St Hugo wine with significant bottle age.

Vibrant crimson in the glass, aromas of blackcurrant, dark plum and cedar lead into layers of cassis, dark chocolate, kirsch, black olive, mocha and subtle mint. The palate remains rich and beautifully structured, with juicy dark fruit, refined oak and fine, silky tannins carrying through a long, elegant finish. Allowing the wine to breathe reveals even greater savoury complexity.

Awarded 94 Points by Halliday Wine Companion and 93 Points by Jeremy Oliver, this limited museum clearance release delivers exceptional pedigree and value, offered at under the cost of the current vintage.

Accolades & Awards:

94 Point Rated - James Halliday Wine Companion

"A Barossa shiraz (61%) and Coonawarra cabernet (39%) blend made famous by Max Schubert, but the first for St Hugo. The synergy is immediate and obvious, the rich and juicy plum fruit of the shiraz given structure and complexity by the blackcurrant, black olive and ripe tannins of the cabernet. A stone-cold certainty to age very well."

93 Point Rated - Jeremy Oliver

"Stylish and silky, this evenly ripened cabernet has a pure, minty and violet-like bouquet of cassis, raspberries, redcurrants and fresh faintly smoky cedar/vanilla oak backed by a suggestion of crushed vine leaves. Long and measured, itÕs full to medium-bodied, with a long, restrained and dusty presence of small dark fruits knit with very fine tannins, finishing with a spicy notes of licorice and mint."

Huon Hooke The Real Review

"Medium to deep red colour, slight purple. Unusual herbal, vegetal aromas, somewhat grassy, with a faintly minty, 'crushed leaf' aspect. The palate is a bit lean and lacking intensity. Fair wine. May have some cabernet in it."
