The Shanahans Silence Is Golden Barossa Valley Shiraz 2022 is a luxurious and powerful wine that reflects the essence of the Barossa Valley terroir. With a lavish nose showcasing profound notes of blood plum, mulberries, and subtle undertones of black pepper, earth, and elegant oak, this wine captures the depth and complexity that the Barossa is renowned for. The 2022 vintage delivers an exceptional balance of intensity and refinement, with perfect fruit concentration that marks the wine as a standout from the Barossa Valley.
The palate is equally compelling, featuring a vibrant mix of blackcurrant, plum, dark cherry, and cassis. The wine’s velvety smooth tannins and a hint of acidity elevate the fruit, giving it a harmonious structure. The oak integration is seamless, with 23% new oak and 77% older American and French oak barrels allowing the wine to mature gracefully, adding complexity and depth. The result is a wine with great length and a remarkable balance between power and elegance, making it a memorable expression of Barossa Shiraz.
Sourced from three blocks in the western Barossa Valley, with vines up to 64 years old, this wine was crafted with a focus on consistency and flavour profile. Handpicked and fermented with 20% whole berries, the wine was then gently worked through the fermentation process, allowing it to evolve into the full-bodied, textured Shiraz it is today. The careful maturation in oak enhances the wine’s complexity, giving it the potential to age beautifully over the next decade.
Awarded 97 Points by Winestate Magazine, 95 Points by Wine Showcase Magazine, 94 Points by Sam Kim Wine Orbit, and 92 Points by Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, the 2022 Silence Is Golden Shiraz is a standout example of the Barossa Valley’s legacy of crafting bold, complex wines. It’s an exceptional choice for collectors and those who appreciate the beauty of Shiraz that will develop further with age.
97 Point Rated - Winestate Magazine
"Rich perfumed bouquet, violets, some leather, dark berries, star anise, juicy fruits with smooth tannins ”
94 Point Rated 5 Stars - Sam Kim Wine orbit
"This is wonderfully expressed on the nose, showing black/blueberry, rich floral, cumin and hazelnut aromas. The palate is equally attractive with excellent weight and richly textured mouthfeel, leading to a lingering plush finish. At its best: now to 2034. $30.00."
95 Point Rated - Australian Wine Showcase Magazine
"Delicious wine with lovely ripened black jubey aromas. Nicely balanced savoury palate with exceptional blue fruit depth, texture and tannin weight."
Huon Hooke - The Real Review
"Quite deep, bright red-purple hue with a herbal/vegetal bouquet, perhaps from a whole-bunch ferment component. Raspberry aromas too. The wine is medium bodied and soft on the tongue, with gentle tannins and a medium-length finish."
92 Point Rated - Erin Larkin Robert Parker Wine Advocate
"Upon opening, the 2022 Silence is Golden Shiraz reveals itself to be needing some oxygen to open up. After 20 minutes, it has done just that. On the nose are layers of sweet roasted beets, pomegranate molasses, blackberry, raspberry, pastrami and peppercorns. The palate is the domain of fine, ferruginous tannin, and while it is elegant, it has a real grunt about it. This is full-throttle Shiraz, handled in a way that also gives restraint and detail. The 18 months in oak has certainly left its mark, but in the end, the fruit prevails over all. 14.5% alcohol, sealed under screw cap."
