Lowlands Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2016

This classic Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc style exudes grapefruit and lime zest. Nuances of Sea spray and trace minerals highlight and define the aromatics. Bursting with lucious up-front fruit, with flavours of passionfruit, grapefruit and unfolding flavours of herbs and the long persistent palate finish is clean and refreshing.

The wine shows concentrated gooseberry and tropical fruit aromas, complemented by subtle oak and mineral nuances. The palate is full bodied and seamless with a creamy texture derived from extended lees contact.

Technical:

Niche Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2016

Fruit was sourced from select vineyards in Marlborough then were lightly pressed in a cool environment with the resulting juice transferred to tank for a cold settling period of up to 3 days. Clear juice was then racked to stainless tanks, warmed and inoculated with a select yeast strain allow the intrinsic qualities of our vineyard sities to shine. Fermentation on average lasted 3 weeks at low temperatures to retain maximum varietal character, after which the wine was removed from their ferment lees before spending time on light lees to develop further palate richness and flavour. Following this the individual parcels were blended and prepared for bottling.

Our aim in the vineyard is to grow the best fruit we can so it can speak of its home and express its personality. To do this you need healthy vines and soil. By practicing organics and incorporating some biodynamic principles we believe we are doing our best to help achieve this and let our vineyards evolve and speak as they would like. 

Sauvignon Blanc is becoming more and more diverse in this country as we all discover the characteristics of sub regions within regions. 

At Rock Ferry we like our Sauvignon Blanc to be dry and have depth and texture. We release our Corners Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc around 18-24 months after it is made (depending on what each season delivers) to allow it to develop and reveal these seasonal characteristics. It tends to age well. It sees some good quality oak, both seasoned and a small portion of new, and the wine speaks gently, reverently of the vineyard site. 

The grapes are hand harvested and whole bunch pressed. The free run juice is fermented in seasoned French oak using indigenous yeast. The wine is then matured (including 8% new French oak barriques) on lees for 8 months prior to blending and bottling.

Precise and pristine, this fabulously aromatic sauvignon shows feijoa, grapefruit, lime zest and herbaceous characters on the nose. The palate is intensely flavoured and vibrant, and offers excellent fruit weight and power, wonderfully structured by bright acidity. Classically expressed and highly enjoyable. 


4 Stars Raymond Chan Wine Review 

Bright, even, pale straw-yellow colour, a little lighter on the edge. The nose is soft and evenly presented with aromas of fresh gooseberries, white florals, passionfruit and tropical fruits, unfolding mineral notes at the heart. Dry to taste and medium-bodied, the palate features a tightly concentrated and deep core with an amalgam of gooseberry and passionfruit, lifted by aromatic herbs and white florals, unfolding capsicum and nettle nuances. The mouthfeel is fresh and lively with lacy acidity, and the wine flows with good drive, along a fine, dry-textured, thirst-quenching line, leading to a nuanced, gooseberry fruited finish. This is an elegantly concentrated, aromatic Sauvignon Blanc with gooseberry and passionfruit flavours, fresh herbs and florals, on a lively, thirst-quenching palate.

It is beautifully ripe and fragrant on the nose displaying passionfruit, rockmelon, feijoa and lime zest characters. The palate delivers superb fruit richness and intensity with perfectly pitched acidity, which provides a lingering refreshing mouthfeel. The wine ticks all the delicious boxes.

Brilliant, very pale straw colour with slight green hues, near colourless on the rim.  This has a very fresh, intense and tightly bound nose with penetrating aromas of passionfruit, gooseberries, fresh herbs and snow peas, along with white florals and mouthwatering mineral nuances.  Dry to taste and medium-bodied, the palate is up-front with rich and juicy, accessible, mouthfilling flavours of passionfruit and gooseberries.  The wine is harmonious in presentation and flows smoothly with softly fresh underlying acidity and subtle textures.  The wine carries to a soft, even, integrated and easy finish.  This is an accessible, gently mouthfilling Sauvignon Blanc with harmoniously integrated passionfruit and gooseberry flavours on a fresh, but smooth palate.

Deliciously creamy, textural organic Sauvignon Blanc with lime zest, mineral and guava flavours. Long and linear wine that is a perfect match with seafood garnished with a squeeze of citrus.

Light straw colour; smoky, nutty, barrel-fermented style bouquet, with honeyed nuances that appear more strongly in the mouth. A well worked wine, not especially sauvignon-like, but intense, deep and quite complex, with a lot of honeyed, secondary complexities. Long, rich and rewarding.
