Boreham Wood Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2016

The Awatere Valley is known for its relatively harsh climate with strong winds and morning frosts in spring working to harden the vines for the high temperatures of summer followed by the cool nights in autumn. As a result the vines struggle and we are able to harvest small, well matured grapes of typical Awatere finesse and flavour.

The 2016 Sauvignon Blanc is a pure, sustainable, single vineyard Awatere Valley wine.

The 2016 season was a perfect season. Spring weather was mild, summer temperatures were not too hot and autumn was dry and filled with sunshine. As a result, at harvest time, the canopy was green and the berries were full of flavour and absent of any disease. Each block in the vineyard was managed differently to create different flavours at harvest. These blocks were also fermented separately in the winery with different yeasts to complement their varying personalities. Once each batch had finished fermenting, they were blended back together to create a wine of perfect balance with typical Upper Awatere character.

Koha Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2016

Both vineyards are cane pruned on VSP trellising. The soils of the lower Wairau Valley Home Block give us ripe, complex flavours and pungent aromatics. While the naturally low cropping Redwood Hills Awatere Vineyard provides fruit with elegance, minerality and length.

The fruit was harvested in the cool of the morning and transferred to the winery where it underwent temperature controlled fermentation in stainless steel tanks using carefully selected yeast cultures. Post-ferment maturation on fine lees gives the wine a refined texture to compliment the exuberant aromatics.

The 2015/2016 growing season was warm and dry. A couple of heavy, but isolated, rain events in January and March provided some drought relief and kept canopies healthy and green.

There was very little disease pressure leading into harvest, so we were able to pick blocks purely on flavour and ripeness. The resulting wine is an aromatic and generous expression of Sauvignon Blanc.

Niche Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2016

Fruit was sourced from select vineyards in Marlborough then were lightly pressed in a cool environment with the resulting juice transferred to tank for a cold settling period of up to 3 days. Clear juice was then racked to stainless tanks, warmed and inoculated with a select yeast strain allow the intrinsic qualities of our vineyard sities to shine. Fermentation on average lasted 3 weeks at low temperatures to retain maximum varietal character, after which the wine was removed from their ferment lees before spending time on light lees to develop further palate richness and flavour. Following this the individual parcels were blended and prepared for bottling.
