Basedows Of Barossa Shiraz 2015

Deep cherry in colour. This wine exhibits aromas of rich, punchy spice with hints of plum jam and black cracked pepper. The palate is full and luscious and is layered with flavours of plum, spice and chocolate. This wine has a firm fruit backbone with rich gentle mouth filling tannins. A full bodied wine which has good length and is an excellent example of Barossa Shiraz.

Vibrant colour leads to a bright nose that demands attention. A complex array of aromas including earth, plum, cherry and spice all entice and commit you to come back for more. The palate is sweet fruited and generous while still maintaining a lightness. Soft ripe fruit tannins add to the textural element of the wine.

Limb Single Vineyard Barossa Valley Shiraz 2016

Dense, vibrant purple red in colour. Brooding Shiraz with ripe, sweet fruit notes of plum, blackberry and pepper on the nose. This wine illustrates exactly how Ivan Limb has been handcrafting premium red wine for his entire life, in the vineyard. The terror and microclimate of specific blocks produce something different year with the obvious characters of this vintage being robust fleshy fruit. The ripe mouth filling berry and cinnamon spice flavours, along with oak derived mocha overtones and soft yet well defined tannins ensure a high drinkable and moreish style of Barossa Shiraz.

Edwards Road Barossa Valley Shiraz 2016

Rich deep purple. Blackberry and dark mocha chocolate on the nose. The palate is perfectly balanced with complementary fruit flavours of blackberry and plum. Elegant fine tannins giving balance, power and density of flavour. A rich and soulful expression of a typical Barossa Valley Shiraz.

Stone Cottage Barossa Shiraz 2016

Deep red black colour. Layers of violets and cloves on the nose with hints of mulberry and dark chocolate. The medium bodied palate is full of sweet fruit and ripe tannins. The multi-layered depth of flavour and texture, combined with a long lingering finish, provide this wine with wonderful drinkability.

Tanunda Hill Reserve Barossa Valley Shiraz 2016

Rich deep plum in colour. The nose has strong dark plum and cherry chocolate notes. The palate is full flavoured typical Barossa Shiraz with black pepper, plum, chocolate with a smooth lingering finish.

Technical:

Basedows Of Barossa Shiraz 2015

The 2015 vintage will be remembered as short, swift and sensational! The season started with good early and mid-winter rains, however August to November saw virtually no rain. Budburst started in early to mid-September with a rapid onset of fruit set. The near perfect, mild ripening conditions continued through December and early January. Mid-January saw rainfalls of 50mm replenishing soil moisture and setting the vines for perfect ripening conditions. The warmer weather in February accelerated ripening with vintage starting in the last week of January. The whites and reds show wonderful aromas and good natural acidy, with the reds showing very strong colour. The fruit comes from several different vineyards situated on the Barossa Valley floor. The vineyards range from 15 to 30 years old and yield on average 4t/acre.

This mataro was basket pressed and transferred into older French hogsheads and puncheons to undergo fermentation. The wine was left on lees to mature for 6 months before being racked off lees and returned to oak for a further 9 months maturation. No fining used in the winemaking process

Limb Single Vineyard Barossa Valley Shiraz 2016

Picking started earlier than usual when the colour and baume levels were at an optimum, then the grapes were gently crushed and fermented in my small capacity open top fermenters for 7 days with plunging twice daily. The wine was then pressed and drained off into some new and old French and American hogsheads’ for 12 months prior to bottling. This wine encapsulates Barossa Valley Shiraz the way it should be, an honest reflection of the vineyard where it was grown.

Tanunda Hill Reserve Barossa Valley Shiraz 2016

The 2016 season was generally warm which allowed the grapes to ripen well and develop bold, strong flavours. A rich Barossa Shiraz classically made with some extended skin contact to soften the palate. This wine matured in older American oak barrels for 15 months to allow the fruit aromas to develop and the tannins to naturally soften.
