The Shanahans Butter Wouldn’t Melt Eden Valley Chardonnay 2024 is a luxurious cool-climate Chardonnay that perfectly balances richness, finesse and precision, showcasing the outstanding quality of High Eden fruit grown at 550 metres above sea level. Produced from a single vineyard and crafted in extremely limited quantities with only 300 dozen produced, this is a refined and highly awarded Chardonnay designed for lovers of premium barrel-fermented styles with elegance and restraint.
Harvested in the cool of night to preserve freshness and purity, the fruit was barrel fermented in French oak hogsheads and puncheons, with an impressive 50% new oak and regular lees stirring building remarkable texture and complexity. Only the finest barrels were selected for the final blend, resulting in a Chardonnay of exceptional detail and sophistication.
In the glass, pale straw hues introduce an elegant bouquet of white peach, nectarine and citrus layered seamlessly with butter, lemon curd, nougat, vanillin oak and crushed stone minerality. The palate is beautifully composed, delivering pure citrus and stone fruit flavours framed by creamy texture and finely tuned oak integration. Lacy natural acidity drives freshness and length through the wine, while the finish remains refined, savoury and beautifully balanced, allowing richness and precision to coexist effortlessly.
Critically acclaimed, this exceptional Chardonnay was awarded 96 Points and a Gold Medal by Wine Showcase Magazine, alongside 95 points and 5 Stars from Russell Gallagher Vinomasters and 93 points with 5 Stars from Sam Kim. Crafted by a trophy-winning family-owned producer, it is drinking superbly now while carrying the structure and balance to evolve gracefully over the next five years.
This premium Eden Valley Chardonnay pairs beautifully with roast chicken, creamy seafood pasta, grilled lobster, pan-seared scallops, truffle risotto or a decadent cheese platter featuring triple cream brie and aged comté, where its texture, acidity and savoury complexity shine brilliantly.

"It's generously fruited and fragrant with aromas of golden peach, mango, lemon peel, vanilla, and roasted hazelnuts. The palate delivers excellent weight and succulent fruit flavours, splendidly supported by a creamy texture and fine acidity, finishing lingering and flavoursome. At its best: now to 2030. $40.00. www.shanahanswines.com.au. Oct 2025."
95 Point Rated & 5 Stars - Russell Gallagher Vinomasters
"Bright pale gold. A poised and sophisticated expression of Eden Valley Chardonnay. The bouquet opens with pristine stone fruit; white peach and nectarine layered with lemon curd, citrus blossom and finely judged, subtle oak. There is an underlying flinty mineral note that adds quiet complexity and regional definition.
The palate is beautifully textural and composed. A creamy, seamless mouthfeel is balanced by firm, refreshing acidity that carries the fruit with precision. Layers of ripe stone fruit, cashews and citrus build gradually through the mid-palate before a line of mineral tension tightens and focuses the structure. Oak is impeccably integrated, contributing gentle spice and polish without overshadowing the fruit.
The finish is long, refined and harmonious, leaving a lingering impression of purity and balance. A confident, elegant Eden Valley Chardonnay with both immediate appeal and cellaring potential. Drink now to 2032."
