The Bay of Fires Tasmania Riesling 2024 captures everything that has made this label one of Australia’s most respected cool-climate producers. Born from a vision to craft wines of classical structure, purity and persistence, this release offers a pristine expression of Tasmanian Riesling. Pale straw with a delicate green hue, it opens with fragrant aromas of fresh lime, musk and subtle florals that signal both vibrancy and refinement. The palate is juicy and energetic, brimming with luscious citrus while crisp mineral acidity brings tension, brightness and a long, refreshing finish. Beautifully balanced in its youth yet clearly structured for longevity, this wine provides immediate drinkability and the promise of graceful development over time.
The strength of the 2024 release is underscored by its Gold Medal at the Tasmanian Wine Show, continuing the impressive track record of the Bay of Fires Riesling, with previous vintages achieving 96 Points from The Real Review, 91 Points from Shanteh Wale, and 95 Points from James Halliday. This ongoing critical acclaim reflects the Estate’s commitment to showcasing Tasmania’s cool-climate elegance, combining fruit intensity with finesse and layered complexity.
This versatile Riesling is superb alongside freshly shucked oysters, kingfish sashimi, chilli-salt squid, Thai salads with lime and coriander, grilled prawns, or soft goat’s cheese. Its mineral drive and citrus freshness also make it ideal for long lunches and warm-weather dining.
96 Point Rated - Huon Hooke The Real Review
Attractive dried floral aromas, dried lemon peel, the palate very incisive, intense and focused, with bright lemony acidity running right through the wine and drawing out the long finish. Very clean and appetising farewell. This falls just on the right side of austerity and has terrific focus and penetration, line and length. Smashing young riesling. A bright future is assured
94 Point Rated - Ray Jordan Wine Pilot
Tassie makes some mighty fine Riesling, and here’s a terrific example made from fruit sourced from the Derwent and Coal River Valleys of the Apple Isle. The nose is intense, delivering a lemony, flinty character with a cutting edge of lime. The palate shows a degree of tension, yet it remains elegantly smooth, with crisp, pebbly minerality providing a fine, precise finish. Excellent wine.
91 Point Rated - Shanteh Wale Wine Pilot
"A punchy wine with lime skin, lemon balm and in season feijoa. There are some quaint apple blossoms notes and with a swift decant these lift from the glass. Acidity sweeps in underfoot, taking apples into the tart green appletini lines. A bone dry wine with the thirst quenching nature of Riesling and crunchy succulence you’d expect from cool climate Tasmania. Go for Thai starters like chicken larb or fish cake, the herbs will set this on fire."
