Tasting Notes:

The Yalumba The Signature Cabernet Shiraz 2022 is a powerful and elegant blend from one of Australia’s most iconic family-owned wineries, crafted from exceptional Barossa Valley vineyards. This release has been widely acclaimed, earning 97 Points from Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate, 96 Points from Dave Brookes of Halliday Wine Companion, 96 Points from Aaron Brasher of The Real Review, and 95 Points from James Suckling.

In the glass, the wine is a deep, dense red with a perfumed nose reflecting the cool season. Aromas of red and purple berries, red liquorice, blackcurrant and black cherries intertwine with cedar, mint, bay leaf and subtle toasted spice. On the palate, it is full-bodied, rich, and concentrated, offering layers of ripe fruit, herbal lift, and spice complexity. Fine, flowing tannins provide a beautifully textured backbone, carrying the wine to a long and harmonious finish.

The Cabernet Sauvignon component was sourced from two distinguished Barossa Valley vineyards, contributing lifted aromatics, freshness, and structure. The Shiraz, drawn from vineyards of varying age—including blocks planted as early as 1925—adds depth, sweetness, and richness, reflecting the sandy loam and ochre-clay terroirs of the region. Maturation for 18 months in a mix of new Hungarian hogsheads (21%), French barriques, and seasoned French and Hungarian oak has brought polish, balance, and integration to this remarkable wine.

A true benchmark of the Cabernet Shiraz style, The Signature is both powerful and refined, with superb ageing potential. Enjoy it now for its freshness and vibrancy, or cellar confidently for two decades to unlock further complexity. It is a perfect match for slow-cooked lamb shoulder, grilled ribeye steak, venison, or roasted portobello mushrooms with truffle oil.

Accolades & Awards:

97 Point Rated - Erin Larkin Robert Parker Wine Advocate

"So pretty—floral, red fruited and fine. This is a beautiful iteration of this wine. Ironically, there's a coastal freshness about it—kelp, brine, crushed shells—given it is nowhere near the coast. It's capacious and mineral and so fresh. The tannins are fine and neat, and the wine has incredible focus and line through the long finish. It's very impressive, potentially one of my favorite releases of this wine to date. It has wholly Barossa fruit this vintage."

96 Point Rated - Dave Brookes James Halliday Wine Companion

"Yalumba's famous Signature cabernet sauvignon and shiraz blend has a strong pedigree when it comes to cellaring and the 2022 release will certainly carry on long into the future. The fruit density and purity here is impressive. Blackberry, Doris plum and black cherry tones, their flow elegant and graceful across the palate with hints of spice, cedar, tobacco, pencil shavings, roasting meats, dried herbs and olive tapenade. Fine-grained tannins are in abundance and there is an extended finish that rolls on and on. It's a super release."

96 Point Rated - Aaron Brasher The Real Review

"Opaque, dark and a youthful plummy red in the glass. Lifted aromas of blackberry, mulberry, dark cherry, licorice, sweet nutty oak, bramble, dried herbs and spice. Full-bodied, generously flavoured, dark fruited, cedar, mocha and with plenty of shapely tannins and lively acidity. There's lovely power and balance here, very enjoyable drinking now, but will cellar for many years."

95 Point Rated - James Suckling

"Savory aromas of blackcurrants, cedar, tobacco leaves, ferrous earth and bitter chocolate. The palate is full-bodied with firmly framed tannins, a long, persisting finish and lingering notes of blackberries, blood plums and walnuts. A serious wine that is built to last for years in the bottle."
