Clarendon Hills Domaine Clarendon Grenache 2021 is an elegant McLaren Vale Grenache sourced from low-yielding, dry-grown vines in the renowned Blewitt Springs region. The favourable 2021 season, with cooler ripening conditions after early warmth, produced fruit with excellent balance, vibrant aromatics and refined structure.
Hand-picked fruit underwent partial whole-berry, wild yeast fermentation before spending 18 months in tightly grained French oak. Bottled unfined and unfiltered, the wine preserves the purity and character of Grenache sourced from the estate’s declassified single-vineyard parcels including Blewitt Springs, Onkaparinga and Romas.
In the glass, the wine shows lifted aromas of lavender, rose and fresh red fruits. The palate flows with cherry, cranberry, raspberry and hints of blood orange, supported by bright acidity and ultra-fine, powdery tannins that provide elegance and length.
This refined McLaren Vale Grenache has been awarded 93 Points from James Suckling and 93 Points from Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate, and comes from a 5 Red Star Halliday-rated winery, confirming the pedigree of this beautifully expressive vintage.
It pairs wonderfully with roast lamb, Mediterranean dishes, chargrilled vegetables or duck.
93 Point Rated - James Suckling
"This is exceptional value. The golden egg in an aspirational suite of once-considerable repute. Molten raspberry bonbons, squelched raspberries and booze, coating the mouth with the first sip. Cranberry, pomegranate, peony, lavender, thyme and rose hip, yet there is nothing anodyne or pulpy about this. Mercifully, there are tannins. The oak is being reshuffled here, to my pleasure. A bit stalky. A little hot. But lots to praise. Drink or hold. Diam."
93 Point Rated Erin Larkin - Robert Parker The Wine Advocate
“The 2021 Domaine Clarendon Grenache is layered with raspberry compote, licorice, jasmine and clove, salted humbugs and black cats. There are loads of cherries and berries on the mid-palate; this is relatively massive, and the tannins are likewise massive (although here, I am a fan). While the oak is a little enthusiastic for my preference, the fruit is excellent (!), and I wish it could be allowed to stand on its own. 14.7% alcohol, sealed under Diam."
