The Normans Peacock McLaren Vale Shiraz 2022 is a commanding example of old-vine McLaren Vale craftsmanship, sourced from an iconic single vineyard where the vines average more than 80 years of age. These deep-rooted vines yield fruit of extraordinary concentration and balance, reflecting the true essence of the region. Fermented in small open-top stainless steel vats, with a portion of whole berries retained to preserve aromatic lift, the wine was hand-plunged several times daily over two weeks before being transferred to a mix of one- and two-year-old French and American oak barrels. It then spent a full 24 months maturing undisturbed, allowing natural flavour development before being bottled unfiltered and unfined to maintain purity and texture.
In the glass, it shimmers deep ruby red, exuding dark fruits and dried herbs with hints of mocha, chocolate, and earthy spice. The palate is generous and layered — black cherries, ripe blackberries, and licorice mingle with savoury undertones and dark cocoa. Fine, juicy tannins glide through the finish, giving remarkable length and finesse to this powerful yet beautifully balanced Shiraz. Drinking superbly now, it will continue to evolve gracefully in the cellar, gaining further complexity over time.
From one of Australia’s pioneering wineries established in 1853, this vintage continues the proud legacy of Normans Wines. The previous release was rated 97 points by Australian Wine Showcase Magazine, while this vintage hails from a near-perfect season recognised by the James Halliday Wine Companion — testament to its pedigree and promise.
Pair this exceptional Shiraz with slow-braised beef cheeks, lamb shoulder with rosemary, or aged cheddar to highlight its depth, structure, and velvety powe

"This wine is splendidly ripe and aromatic, featuring notes of blackberry, cedar oak, cake spice, and rich floral scents. On the palate, it is succulent and generously weighted, offering succulent fruit flavours supported by a plush texture and grainy tannins. The finish is wonderfully long and robust. It is bold and full of flavour. At its best: now to 2035. $125.00. www.normanswines.com. Oct 2025."
