Tasting Notes:

Our prettiest and lightest red wine. Our 2022 Pinot Noir has the lifted aroma of raspberry, strawberry and spicy clove that only Pinot Noir can achieve. Picked when the aroma is right, this is a lighter bodied wine. The palate starts out fresh with red fruits with a lingering leafy savouriness. The lingering flavour makes for a very enjoyable Pinot Noir.

Technical:

This was a very challenging vintage with the La Nina weather pattern delivering well above average rainfall. The other impacts were numerous late Spring cold events, relatively cool temperatures, big summer storms and high humidity. The ongoing rain kept the team on the tractors with sprays, triming and leafremoval. There was also lots of walking through the vineyard cutting out affectedbunches. The conditions meant that picking for the 2022 vintage was some 4 weeks later than the past few year. Vintage 2022 began on February 21 and finished on 14 April.

Fruit was hand-picked and about 30% whole bunches were used in the ferment. The wine spent 10 days on skins with a combination of pumping over and plunging. The Pinot Noir was matured for 10 months before bottling. The oak was 100% French predominantly large oak foudre with minimal new oak. The cooler conditions and subtle oak influence produced a “pretty wine” for early drinking. Minimal intervention is required to maximize pinot characters and to allow the soils and the character of the region to be displayed.

Accolades & Awards:

93 Point Rated - Jeni Port Halliday Wine Companion

"Shiraz and pinot noir duke it out for top red wine spot in Beechworth and they're hard to separate, especially in a year like 2022. Pinot shines here, quite literally, in glistening red cherry hues. The scent is aromatic and sweet in wild raspberry, cherry, plum, clove. Combines a purity of fruit with a touch of earthy, leafy savouriness, bringing added depth to the palate. Structurally firm and well-textured, it remains fresh, full of energy. It should do well in the journey ahead."
