Tasting Notes:

The d'Arenberg The Ironstone Pressings McLaren Vale GSM 2020 is a premium Grenache, Shiraz and Mourvèdre blend that pays tribute to the ancient ironstone soils that have helped shape the character of McLaren Vale for generations. Crafted from small parcels of exceptional fruit, this iconic GSM is made using traditional d'Arenberg techniques including open fermentation, foot treading, basket pressing and maturation in a combination of new and seasoned French oak barriques. Bottled without fining or filtration, it delivers exceptional depth, complexity and regional character.

Deep ruby in colour, the bouquet is rich and expressive with aromas of dark berries, black plum and earthy spice, complemented by lifted floral notes and subtle savoury complexity. The palate is opulent and full-flavoured, revealing generous layers of blackberry, dark cherry and plum interwoven with hints of spice, dried herbs and fine oak. Silky tannins and vibrant natural acidity create outstanding balance, while the long, persistent finish showcases the elegance and power that have made McLaren Vale GSM blends world renowned.

Ideal with slow-cooked lamb, chargrilled meats, hearty Mediterranean dishes or aged cheeses, the d'Arenberg The Ironstone Pressings McLaren Vale GSM 2020 6 Pack is a superb addition to any premium wine collection. Enjoy now or cellar confidently to reveal even greater complexity over the coming years.

Accolades & Awards:

96 Point Rated & 5 Stars - Sam Kim Wine Orbit

"It's seductively expressed on the nose, showing blackberry, wild strawberry, rich floral, smoked meat, cedar, and potpourri aromas. The palate exhibits terrific weight and expansive mouthfeel, splendidly structured by fleshy texture and beautifully melded tannins, finishing wonderfully long and satisfying. At its best: now to 2038. $78.00."

95 Point Rated - Marcus Ellis Halliday Wine Companion

"A cornerstone of the range, which has many stones, and also a blend prior critical to the region, though varietal grenache bottlings have usurped that. There’s the usual staunchness of house style here, a palisade of tannins walling a density of black and ripe red fruits, earth and spice, though the balance here leans a little more to the latter than the former. Cured meats, dried blackberry, tapenade, struck iron, raspberry coulis, poached plums with star anise, cinnamon and clove, it’s a wine that unfurls with time in glass, and a vigorous decant is advised. It’s rugged, but there’s so much on show, and it certainly rewards patience."

94 Point Rated - Ken Gargett Wine Pilot

"A compelling example of the Grenache Shiraz Mourvèdre from the McLaren Vale, fermentation is completed in a mix of new and older French oak barriques. Dark magenta in colour, the nose exhibits notes of plums, warm earth, raspberries, aniseed, bay leaves, dried herbs and redcurrants. A sleek texture with excellent length, this is a most seductive style. Good balance throughout with fine, powdery tannins on the finish. Lovely drinking for the next ten to twelve years."

92 Point Rated - International Wine & Spirit Competition

90 Point Rated - Aaron Brasher The Real Review

"Old school aromas of cedary oak, dark fruits, spice, menthol and bramble. Chunky, firm and meaty, full-bodied, with earthy, leathery fruit flavours, spice and very firm tannins on the finish. Very dry and rustic in style."
