Tasting Notes:

St Hugo Single Vineyard Koch Barossa Valley Shiraz 2021 showcases premium Barossa Shiraz through fruit sourced from the remarkable 100-year-old Koch family vineyard in the Rowland Flat sub-region of the Barossa Valley. The 2021 vintage benefited from a mild, dry ripening season with below-average temperatures, allowing the fruit to develop exceptional flavour, freshness and balance.

The wine was created from three separately fermented parcels, using a combination of destemmed fruit, whole bunches and whole berries to build complexity and texture. Each parcel was matured separately for 17 months before individual barrels were selected for the final blend, which was matured in 55% new and 45% seasoned French oak.

Dark vibrant purple in colour, the wine opens with ripe dark red berries, florals and sweet perfumed spice. The palate is plush yet beautifully restrained, with bright raspberry, cherry and pomegranate layered over fine, chalky tannins. French oak is seamlessly integrated, adding depth without overwhelming the purity of fruit, while the long, elegant finish leaves an impression of sophistication and balance. Awarded a Trophy, Top Gold and 96 Points at the Barossa Wine Show, along with 95 Points from Dave Brookes for the Halliday Wine Companion and 95 Points from Andrew Graham for Oz Wine Review, this exceptional single-vineyard Shiraz is produced by a 5 Red Star Halliday rated winery.

Accolades & Awards:

95 Point Rated Dave Brookes Halliday Wine Companion

''Sourced from a 1921-planted single vineyard on the banks of Jacob's Creek in Rowland Flat. Deep crimson with aromas of rich blackberry and blood plum conserve with hints of fruitcake spice, graphite, Old Gold chocolate, tobacco, panforte, violets, cedar and coal dust. Smooth and graceful with impressive depth and flow, fine river silt tannins and plenty of latent power as it fades.''

95 Point Rated - Andrew Graham - Oz Wine Review

"Comes off a 102yo vineyard on the banks pf Jacobs Creek. Polished. You can see the alluvial on the rather pretty nose. This has lovely bright purple fruit, an aromatic-led Shiraz with this blueberry fresh palate and very fine tannins. I love this – an excellent, polished, yet powerful modern Barossan Shiraz of such plushness and form."
