Tasting Notes:

The Mr Mick Clare Valley Sangiovese 2025 is a fresh, energetic expression of this classic Italian variety, shaped by the Clare Valley’s long tradition of innovation and crafted under the guidance of legendary winemaker Tim Adams. Named in honour of K.H. “Mr Mick” Knappstein, this release continues a philosophy built on approachability, authenticity and drink-now appeal, while showcasing how naturally Sangiovese thrives in the region’s cool-climate conditions.

Sourced from the Rogers Vineyard in the heart of Clare Valley, the fruit benefits from rich terra rossa soils and cooling afternoon breezes that preserve natural acidity and aromatic lift. Fermented gently on skins for one week and matured without oak, the winemaking places purity of fruit front and centre, allowing varietal character and regional expression to shine without distraction.

In the glass, the wine opens with vibrant aromas of red cherry and juicy raspberry, immediately inviting and bright, with a subtle savoury edge of dried thyme adding complexity. The palate is medium-bodied and lively, delivering crunchy red fruit flavours supported by firm yet fine-grained tannins and a refreshing line of acidity that drives length and definition. The finish is clean, energetic and mouthwatering, making this an effortlessly drinkable style that feels both modern and true to its European roots.

Designed to be enjoyed young, this Sangiovese is particularly appealing slightly chilled during warmer months, yet versatile enough to suit year-round drinking. At the table it pairs seamlessly with wood-fired pizza topped with prosciutto and roasted capsicum, fresh tomato pasta with basil, Mediterranean salads with grilled vegetables, or a relaxed antipasti spread of charcuterie, olives and pecorino. Its structure also complements lighter fare such as mushroom risotto or herb-roasted chicken, where freshness and balance are key.

While this release carries no formal show ratings, the pedigree of the producer speaks volumes. Tim Adams’ standing as one of Australia’s most respected winemakers underpins the quality and value on offer, making the Mr Mick Clare Valley Sangiovese 2025 a confident, food-friendly red that delivers personality, vibrancy and everyday enjoyment in equal measure.
