Tasting Notes:

The Mr Mick Clare Valley Grenache 2024 is a vibrant, fruit-driven expression that continues the enduring philosophy of the legendary K.H. “Mr Mick” Knappstein — championing generosity, approachability and innovation in Australian winemaking. Crafted by renowned Clare Valley winemaker Tim Adams, this release embraces an un-oaked, modern Grenache style inspired by the fresh, drink-now wines of south-east France and Spain, while retaining a clear sense of Clare Valley identity.

Sourced from youthful Grenache vines planted on the rich soils of the Rogers Vineyard, the fruit was harvested at optimal ripeness to capture purity and brightness rather than excess weight. Fermented under controlled conditions and kept on skins for a week, the wine was then gently pressed, with hard pressings separated to minimise phenolic harshness. With no oak ageing, the focus remains firmly on fruit expression, varietal character and natural balance.

In the glass, the wine bursts with lively aromas of cherry, raspberry and red plum, lifted by a subtle thread of Grenache spice. The palate is fresh, juicy and immediately engaging, unfolding with vibrant red-berry flavours, a touch of savoury nuance and soft, mellow tannins that glide effortlessly across the mouth. Well-balanced natural acidity brings energy and definition, delivering a clean, refreshing finish that makes the wine dangerously drinkable.

This is a style that shines lightly chilled during the warmer months, yet remains wonderfully versatile year-round. It pairs effortlessly with antipasto platters, wood-fired pizza, charcuterie, Asian noodle dishes, lamb koftas, tapas or relaxed mid-week meals, while being just as enjoyable on its own. Fresh, accessible and packed with charm, the Mr Mick Clare Valley Grenache 2024 reflects the momentum of the modern Grenache movement and continues a legacy that has earned strong praise from critics in previous vintages, including Campbell Mattinson of The Wine Front.
