Tasting Notes:

Beechworth is at an altitude of 350 metres. Wine has been produced in the region since the 1950s, and since its establishment in 1999, Indigo Vineyard has earned a reputation for producing elegant, balanced wines that reflect the unique character of this highly regarded Victorian wine region.

The 2022 vintage was shaped by challenging La Niña conditions, with above-average rainfall, cool temperatures and late-season storms requiring meticulous vineyard management. Despite the demanding season, careful fruit selection and hands-on viticulture ensured fruit of exceptional quality. The Shiraz was fermented on skins for 14 days in small open fermenters using a combination of whole bunch (10%) and whole berry fermentation, with regular pump-overs and hand plunging. After pressing, the wine completed fermentation and malolactic conversion in barrel before maturing for 20 months in French oak puncheons and barriques, 30% of which were new oak.

In the glass, the wine shows vibrant fruit intensity with lifted aromas of ripe berry and plum layered with classic cool-climate Shiraz spice, including pepper and star anise. The bouquet reveals attractive complexity while maintaining bright, expressive fruit. On the palate, the wine is energetic and structured, delivering a harmonious balance of juicy fruit, savoury spice and finely textured tannins that carry through to a long, elegant finish.

This distinguished Beechworth Shiraz has been awarded 93 Points by Jeni Port (Halliday Wine Companion) and comes from a 5 Star Halliday-rated winery, reinforcing its pedigree and cellaring potential.

With its balance of fruit purity and savoury spice, it pairs beautifully with roast lamb, chargrilled steak, mushroom dishes or aged cheddar, where its structure and complexity shine.

Accolades & Awards:

93 Point Rated Jeni Port Halliday Wine Companion

"A very different shiraz to the previous vintage release: lower in alcohol, overall ripeness and generally a little more circumspect. Aussie bush notes, pepper and briar scents with black fruits, plum and spice. There's an almost unassuming elegance to this wine, with beautifully presented red and black fruits studded in spices and black pepper notes. The palate is really fluid, polished and even, with tannins running long and fine. Very smart indeed."
