Tasting Notes:

The Yangarra Estate McLaren Vale Mourvèdre 2015 is a rare and compelling expression of one of McLaren Vale's most celebrated Mediterranean varieties. Produced by the acclaimed Yangarra Estate in the prized Blewitt Springs sub-region, this museum-release Mourvèdre reflects the estate's commitment to biodynamic viticulture and Rhône-inspired winemaking. Crafted under the guidance of Australian Winemaker of the Year Pete Fraser, this wine showcases the purity, complexity and elegance that have made Yangarra one of Australia's most respected producers.

Sourced from organically and biodynamically farmed estate vineyards, the wine opens with lifted aromas of black cherry, crushed minerals, wild herbs and sweet spice. The palate is medium to full-bodied, offering vibrant dark berry fruit, savoury earthiness and subtle spice layered over fine-grained tannins and refreshing natural acidity. Beautifully balanced and refined, it delivers impressive texture and persistence while highlighting the distinctive character of mature McLaren Vale Mourvèdre.

Now with over a decade of bottle age, this wine is drinking superbly and pairs beautifully with slow-cooked lamb, Moroccan-inspired dishes, chargrilled meats, game, mushroom ragout or aged hard cheeses. A rare opportunity to experience a mature, single-estate Mourvèdre from one of Australia's benchmark biodynamic wineries.

Accolades & Awards:

95 Point Rated - Jane Faulkner Halliday Wine Companion

"It has more perfume and lift than most with currants, Treviso radicchio, crushed gravel and cinnamon quills. Ripe tannins and sprightly acidity are in sync, with the latter in the driver's seat. Come along for the ride."

94 Point Rated - Toni Paterson The Real Review

"It is always interesting to see varietal mourvèdre, and this is a very deep, plush and luscious example. Rich blackberry and mulberry flavours with the intensity centred on the mid-palate, and savouriness on the finish. Though there is also refreshing bright acidity which gives the wine a lift. I love the complex tannin network that gently frames the fruit. Don't be afraid to give the wine plenty of air, and use a large glass to release its true character."

94 Point Rated - QWine Reviews

"A delight to drink really. One of those wines I'd rather happily sip away than ponder the thought of a review. But alas, here we are writing about this beauty we have on our hands.   The use of older oak has certainly ensured the fruit bounds along. Attractive purple and blue fruit aromas are woven between aniseed and mulberries. Some earthiness lurches forward with a tap of minerality. Dried herbs raise their hand before long too. Exotic spices and dashes of pepper move along at ease. Drying to finish, almost puckering, before tight acidity wraps up a neat package urging another sip. Superb!  Certified organic and biodynamic.  Drink now to eight years."

93 Point Rated - James Halliday Wine Companion

"Well made. Cold-soaked, matured in used French barrels for 9 months. Cherry, cherry everywhere - all types, all flavours. It all comes together on the coherent, well balanced palate and aftertaste."

92 point Rated - Huon Hooke The Real Review

"Deep red with a good tint of purple, the aroma fumey and woodsy, fairly savoury, with a hint of super-ripeness. A rustic, full-bodied wine with flesh, density and grip, but going further than simple varietal fruit personality. It has good extract and could repay a little time in the cellar - though doesn't really need it. There's good richness, weight and flesh as well as drinkability. (Certified biodynamic. 50% destemmed; 50% whole berries; wild yeast. Older French oak for 10 months; filtered but unfined. 370 cases)"
