Tasting Notes:

The Glaetzer Wallace Barossa Valley Shiraz Grenache 2022 is a bold yet beautifully balanced expression of the classic Barossa blend, crafted by one of the region’s most respected producers. Sourced from old-vine fruit in the renowned Ebenezer sub-region—where Shiraz vines sit between 50 and 80 years old and Grenache vines stretch up to a century—this wine combines depth, power and vibrancy in equal measure. The Shiraz component is matured for 16 months in seasoned French and American hogsheads to build structure and savoury complexity, while the Grenache sees minimal oak to preserve its brightness, perfume and silky red-fruit charm.

The palate offers a harmony of richness and freshness, delivering dark berries, plum and black cherry layered with lifted raspberry, spice and a gentle savoury edge. The old-vine concentration is immediately evident, yet the wine remains effortlessly drinkable, showcasing the modern Barossa style where flavour, texture and balance coexist seamlessly. Its refinement and character have earned it strong critical acclaim, including 93 Points from Angus Hughson (Vinous) and high praise from both Erin Larkin of Robert Parker Wine Advocate and the Halliday Wine Companion, where the winery holds a prestigious 5 Red Star rating.

This generous, versatile red pairs superbly with chargrilled lamb cutlets, beef brisket, roasted pork belly, spiced sausages, wood-fired pizza, mushroom ragù or hard cheeses such as aged cheddar. While wonderfully enjoyable now for its plush fruit and supple texture, it also has the structure to evolve gracefully over the next decade for those with the patience to cellar.

Accolades & Awards:

93 Point Rated - Angus Hughson Vinous

"The crowd-pleasing 2022 Shiraz Grenache Wallace delivers both power and complexity as it ripples with dark earth, blackberry and dark cherry aromas lifted by a savory touch of roasted meat. The 2022 marks a high point for this label. There is also impressive density, depth and volume of flavor, which builds over the strong finish. Significant tannins ensure this will age well over the medium term."

93 Point Rated - Sam Kim Wine Orbit

"Sweetly fruited and perfumed, the bouquet shows Black Doris plum, cherry, clove, and assorted nut aromas with a hint of vanilla

complexity. It's succulent and supple in the mouth with silky texture and finely infused tannins, finishing lingering and flavoursome.

At its best: now to 2032. $23.00. www.glaetzer.com. May 2025."

93 Point Rated - Ray Jordan Wine Pilot

"Some pretty serious Barossa fruit has gone into this terrific value for money high quality blend. Shiraz is between 50 and 80

years old, and the Grenache up to 100. It’s produced a wine of immense vibrancy and liveliness, with bright red fruit, lifted

florals and a trace of peppery energy seamlessly integrated with fine tannin and oak support. A wine of purity and finesse, with

just a hint of vanillin oak to finish."

93 Point Rated - Andrew Caillard MW & Ken Gargett The Vintage Journal

"Medium-deep crimson. Dark plum, redcurrant black olive tapenade aromas and flavours with cedar spice notes. Lovely inky

density, fine chalky tannins and fresh juicy acidity. Early drinking style. Drink now-soon."

92 Point Rated - James Suckling

"A well-balanced, tactile and vivid blend of shiraz and grenache with blueberries, plums, cassis, licorice and warm spices.

Medium-bodied with creamy tannins and texture. Well rounded, fruit driven and mellow with a delicious, polished finish. Drink

Now."

Erin Larkin Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

"The 2022 Wallace Shiraz Grenache is a bright, spicy little thing, with black fruit and exotic spice in profusion. The acid and tannins clash a little through the finish, listing the wine toward graphite, aniseed, clove, etc., but otherwise, this is straightforward and pleasing. 14.5% alcohol, sealed under screw cap."

92 Point Rated - Dave Brookes James Halliday Wine Companion

"A blend of 75/25% shiraz/grenache sourced from of the northern subregion of Ebenezer. Deep magenta/crimson in the glass with rich aromas of juicy dark plum, blackberry and black cherry fruits with a scattering of crushed herb, baking spices, violets, coal dust, pan juices, cedar, fruitcake and earth. There's plenty of fruit presence for the price here; bright acidity, too, and it tastes of the Barossa which is all we need to know."
