Normans Chais Clarendon Barossa Valley Shiraz 2023 is a bold and expressive Barossa Shiraz crafted to highlight depth, richness and seamless oak integration. Fermented in small open-top stainless steel fermenters, the wine was hand-plunged twice daily for seven days to maximise colour and flavour extraction from the skins. It was then transferred to a combination of American and French oak barrels to complete fermentation and mature for 14 months, allowing the wine to develop complexity and structure.
Deep dark purple with a red hue, the nose bursts with luscious aromas of ripe blackberry and concentrated cherry layered with plum, red liquorice and warming spice. The palate is youthfully opulent and full-bodied, delivering waves of dark plum, blackberry and cherry while savoury complexity builds through the mid-palate with notes of aniseed, Chinese five spice and red liquorice. Firm yet rounded tannins provide structure, balanced by a refreshing line of acidity that carries the wine through to a long, lingering finish. The oak influence is beautifully integrated, enhancing the richness without overshadowing the vibrant fruit.
Previous vintages have earned outstanding acclaim, including 95 Points from Wine Showcase Magazine and a Gold Medal from the Australian Wine Showcase Magazine. The Chais Clarendon Shiraz has also been awarded Winestate Wine of the Year, highlighting the pedigree of this celebrated release from one of Australia’s oldest and most respected wine companies, established in 1853.
A classic Barossa Shiraz for hearty cuisine, it pairs beautifully with chargrilled steaks, slow-roasted lamb shoulder, beef brisket or smoky barbecue dishes. Its power and depth also make it a perfect partner for aged hard cheeses and rich winter fare.
