Tasting Notes:

The F.E. Osborn & Sons Old Bean Truck Langhorne Creek Cabernet Sauvignon 2022 pays tribute to the legacy of Francis Earnest Osborn, whose old “Bean” truck once carried hand-picked grapes from the family vineyards to the original 1920s d’Arenberg winery—still in use today. From a vintage described as one of the finest in years, the 2022 growing season blessed Langhorne Creek with even ripening, mild conditions and exceptional fruit quality. Thick, crunchy skins and pristine berry condition created reds of remarkable colour, fragrance, structure and purity—qualities beautifully reflected in this expressive Cabernet.

Youthful yet incredibly approachable, the wine opens with vivid violet, cassis and lifted red-fruited perfume, underscored by subtle green tea leaf and Cabernet spice. The palate is medium-bodied and elegant, driven by varietal clarity and bright fruit energy. Chalky, tantalising tannins glide across the palate, balanced by fresh natural acidity that adds tension and length. As it opens, the wine reveals increasing mid-palate richness, hinting at the complexity it will develop over five or more years in the cellar. Crafted by one of Australia’s most respected estates—d’Arenberg, established in 1912 and a Halliday 5 Red Star Winery—this Cabernet showcases impeccable pedigree and regional authenticity.

This style pairs naturally with rosemary lamb cutlets, chargrilled rib-eye, peppered kangaroo fillet, mushroom pie, eggplant parmigiana, or firm cheeses such as aged cheddar and manchego. Its structure, aromatics and finesse make it equally suited to casual mid-week meals or more elevated dining.
