Brilliant pale straw with green hues. Lifted aromas of perfume, citrus blossom and fresh lime dominate with a talcy/mineral note evident. All the hallmarks of an excellent vintage. Crisp acid driven wine, exuding all the flavours of lime. Leaf, juice, blossom and even cordial. The highly concentrated fruit driven mid palate is wound around a core of fine acid that balances and extends the finish perfectly.
95 Point Rated - Aaron Brasher The Real Review
"Now with the second generation of the Pike clan running the show, Jamie will no doubt continue what has been done at this joint for nearly four decades, which is to produce benchmark riesling that delivers year in, year out and speaks of its sense of place. I buy this wine every year, drink some of the bottles in the early days to enjoy the vivacity of youth, and I squirrel some away, as they evolve with a decade or so in the cellar into something truly wonderful.
Lovely, fragrant aromas of lemon, lime, bath salts, white flowers and feijoa. The palate has a real lushness of flavour—citrus, just-ripe stone fruit, lemon pith and talc. The acidity has a lively purity and drive and the length is really impressive. An outstanding wine and top value. (Screwcap)"
This release marks the 38th vintage of Pikes Riesling and is a worthy follower to the exceptional 2021 release, representing one of the best of the last decade. A true reflection of the cooler vintage, this wine will stand the test of time.
Good winter rain allowed soil profiles to be full, giving the vines a great start to the growing season. Remarkably cool summer followed, providing perfect conditions for healthy vines to produce fruit with high natural acidity and concentrated flavours. One of the better vintages of the last decade. Fruit sourced from our own estate in Polish Hill River, and growers’ vineyards in Watervale, Leasingham, Mintaro and Sevenhill. Made exclusively with free run juice, our aim is to capture the flavour of the individual sites with minimal winemaking influence being evident.
