The Petaluma White Label Adelaide Hills Chardonnay 2024 is a classic cool-climate Chardonnay that showcases the impeccable vineyard management and winemaking expertise of the Petaluma team. Sourced from two prime vineyards in the Adelaide Hills — Lenswood and Balhannah — this wine is a perfect example of the region's ability to produce wines of elegance and finesse. With winemaking in his blood, Andrew Hardy, custodian of the vineyards and the Petaluma winemaker, believes in crafting wines that reflect the unique character of each vineyard site. Having worked closely with the legendary Brian Croser since 1982, Andrew's commitment to quality and sustainability shines through in this wine.
This Adelaide Hills Chardonnay is fermented in a combination of one and two-year-old French oak barriques and stainless steel tanks, bringing out the perfect balance of fruit purity and oak complexity. On the nose, the wine offers classic citrus notes complemented by hints of peach, while the palate delivers grapefruit, melon, and a touch of white peach, framed by crisp acidity and subtle oak influences. With its fruit-forward style, this Chardonnay is refreshing and easy-drinking, making it ideal for casual enjoyment or as an accompaniment to seafood, chicken, or light pasta dishes.
The 2024 vintage has been lauded for its elegance, structure, and balance, making it a wine that can be enjoyed now for its fresh fruit character, or cellared to reveal further complexity. A perfect expression of modern Australian cool-climate Chardonnay, this wine has earned praise from critics, with the previous vintage receiving 92 points from Tom Kline of Wine Pilot.
Petaluma White Label Adelaide Hills Chardonnay is a great representation of the Adelaide Hills region's ability to produce wines with both fruit intensity and elegance, showcasing the expertise of one of Australia's most respected winemaking families.
92 Point Rated - Ken Gargett Wine Pilot
"A famous name in Australian Chardonnay, this is from Adelaide Hills fruit, offering ripe and delicious flavours, with a line of fine, juicy acidity etched in for the full journey. The colour is a clear, pale straw and the nose offers aromas of stone fruit and tropical characters. There is apricot, orange rind and a hint of bitter lemon. This is well crafted with a tight structure, very good length and concentration throughout. Appealing now, with room to improve it will drink well for six to eight years."
90 Point Rated - Tom Kline Wine Pilot
"Stone fruits lead the aromas in the form of nectarine and peach skin with some grilled nuts and a subtly smoky tone beneath. A glimmer of bacon fat, too. The palate is forward of fruit and quite fulsome in its texture, coating the mouth with nectarine and peach before a nutty nuance and some preserved lemon bitterness. There’s a good lick of pithy acidity to clean up the finish. Another release in this range that delivers well on texture and flavour at $29."
