Technical:

Apex represents Nepenthe’s dedication to regional excellence by providing a unique single clone, single site, single vintage snapshot in every bottle. Underpinned by craftsmanship and provenance, minimal intervention winemaking allows the nuances of site and clonal complexities to be highlighted, while maximising varietal purity. Sourced from the iconic Rathmine Vineyard in the Adelaide Hills, the fruit from this single vineyard was picked in the cool of the night, gently pressed and transferred to new French oak to ferment. The wine was then stirred on lees for 3 months, left to mature for a further 10 months before being clarified and bottled.

Accolades & Awards:

93 Point Rated - Campbell Mattinson
Bernard clone chardonnay from the Rathmine Vineyard in the Adelaide Hills.

Straw-yellow in colour and while it’s reticent and slender at first it builds appreciably in the glass. Indeed it presents a mouthful of well-honed flavour. White peach, grilled nuts, ripe pear and bacony oak-spice notes make for quite delicious drinking. How it ended up with an $80 pricetag I’m not sure but for pure drinking enjoyment it’s hard to deny it.

92 Point Rated - Toni Paterson The Real Review
This is the first vintage of Apex, the flagship chardonnay of the Nepenthe portfolio. It is a richly-flavoured, expressive chardonnay, with notes of white nectarine and grapefruit, an overlay of French oak and a long, lemony palate. It is defined by its acid line, which is prominent now in its youthful state, though is central to its ageing potential. It needs some time in bottle to show its true colours. Small quantities produced.
