An aromatic and perfumed nose, with lemon blossom, chamomile and black tea. Nashi pear, white nectarine, lemon flesh and grapefruit provide the foundation of the fruit spectrum. Subtleties of iodine, graphite, cinnamon, brioche and grilled almonds are neatly packaged together, giving delicate complexity.
The palate is energetic, with concentrated fruits of cut lime, pear, custard apple. A delicately textured and layered mid-palate is defined by natural laced acidity, creating the corridor. Savoury notes and spice work in symmetry, carrying a long finish with gentle talc-like tension.
The Prelude Vineyards label focuses on the benchmark varietals of the region and represent the first release Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon from Leeuwin Estate each vintage. They are site expressive wines that encase the purity and clarity of fruit with a style that is readily expressive for earlier release.

“It’s the best Prelude I can remember tasting, I’ll say that much straight off. A little struck match, very spicy (some pepper and cinnamon), bright citrus and green pear, hazelnut, fine flinty grip, with a cool finish of excellent length. Fine-boned, but delivers just enough flavor. I was so taken by its balance and charm. Superb drinking.”

"There would be a lot of wineries who would love to have this as their top chardonnay. But of course, Leeuwin has that little matter of Art Series above it. This really is one of the best and most complete of this line. Seems to have struck a nice balance between the early more opulent styles and some of the later leaner styles. The vintage has helped but the fruit is so pretty with typical cashew, light grapefruit and a little lemon character supported by such exquisitely applied oak. Very good."

“This is the second string to Leeuwin's imperious Art Series cuvee, yet few corners are cut. A bit broader texturally and of more fruity immediacy. Think canned peach, glazed quince, orange verbena, nougat and beautifully placed oak, gently caressing the seams. Mid-weighted and packed with flavor and integrity, this drinks far better than many producer's top wines. Drink or hold briefly.”

"I like the way this complements the Art Series chardonnay and has its own distinct personality. It gently reveals flavours of melon, stone fruit, ginger spice and beeswax. It’s rich and ripe, tangy and juicy, fuller bodied and so easy to enjoy. Good drinking now."
