Tasting Notes:

Pale green/straw in appearance with typical Clare Valley Riesling characters on show, including lemon, lime & floral notes. The palate is fresh, dry and mouth filling - the well balanced acidity ensuring a crisp, clean finish. While Riesling is a delicious, refreshing summer wine and great all year round.

Technical:

The 2015 vintage was shaped by a cool winter with above average rainfall followed by a dry and quite warm spring. Budburst was almost 2 weeks earlier than normal due to the warmer conditions and as a consequence harvest was also very early – we commenced vintage on Feb 4th. The Summer was quite temperate and really did not get hot for any extended period. Apart from a few hot days around New Year conditions were very moderate for the rest of the harvest. The grapes were both machine and hand harvested, transported to the winery, crushed, chilled and pressed as soon as possible prior to the juice being clarified by cold settling. It was then inoculated with a pure yeast culture, with fermentation carried out in stainless steel temperature controlled tanks for on average 25-30 days. The wine was stabilised, blended and then filtered prior to bottling in July 2015.

Pikes Vintners is an iconic family owned and operated winery set amongst the hills and valleys of South Australia’s beautiful Clare Valley. Established in 1984 the winery and vineyards are situated in the historic and picturesque Polish Hill River sub region on the eastern side of the Clare Valley. The climate in this area is cooler and the soils are quite different compared to the rest of the region, imparting distinctive flavours and aromas to the wines. Pikes is best known for its world class Riesling, but is becoming increasingly recognized for high quality, elegant red wines and their ever popular Sauvignon Blanc Semillon blend. Pikes have also been a leader in planting new and alternative varieties to the district including Sangiovese, Pinot Grigio and Viognier. Pikes also produces Pikes Oakbank– a sparkling Pilsener style beer.
