The Teakle Wines South Australian Riesling 2025 is a striking cool-climate Riesling that beautifully captures the maritime purity and natural energy of the Southern Eyre Peninsula. Grown on the Teakle property in Port Lincoln, just two kilometres from the foreshore and elevated 150 metres above sea level, the vineyard benefits from long sunshine hours, cooling ocean breezes and unique sandy loam over red-brown clay soils that combine to produce fruit of remarkable freshness, precision and intensity.
In the glass, the wine shines crystal clear pale straw with delicate green hues, immediately signalling its youthful vibrancy. The bouquet is intensely aromatic, bursting with kaffir lime, lemon blossom and lifted citrus oils, while a pronounced flinty minerality adds sophistication and regional character. On the palate, this Riesling is dry, focused and high-energy, driven by electric natural acidity that gives the wine exceptional length and precision. Layers of lemon rind, grapefruit pulp and fresh citrus flow seamlessly toward a long saline finish reminiscent of crushed sea shells, reflecting the cooling maritime influence that defines this unique site.
This is a refined and modern Australian Riesling style — bright, mineral and beautifully structured — equally enjoyable in its youth or suitable for careful short-to-medium-term cellaring as additional complexity develops over time. Critically acclaimed, the wine has earned 93 points from Campbell Mattinson, 92 points from Katrina Butler in the Halliday Wine Companion and 90 points from Jeni Port for Wine Pilot, reinforcing its quality and regional pedigree.
Perfect alongside freshly shucked oysters, grilled prawns, sashimi, Thai lime and chilli dishes, salt and pepper squid or fresh goat cheese, this Riesling thrives with seafood and citrus-driven cuisine where its minerality and vibrant acidity truly shine.
92 Point Rated - Katrina Butler James Halliday Wine Companion
"Refreshment factor is at the forefront of this release. Lime, white florals and bath salt aromas are mirrored on the palate, accompanied by a supercharged line of acidity."
93 Point Rated - Campbell Mattinson
"This is seriously good riesling. It is because it offers intensity of fruit flavour - and the length to go with it - but also because it is distinctive. It tastes of pebbles and bath salts, kaffir lime and pure lemon, with grapefruit pulp and lemon rind notes running through the aftertaste. It begs for food as all good riesling does but, along the way, you can't help but admire the character on offer here."
90 Point Rated - Jeni Port Wine Pilot
"I’m not sure what wildflowers grow at Port Lincoln, but I suspect this is exactly the scent that covers the countryside and greets chief winemaker, Liz Heidenreich every vintage when she is making Riesling: acacia, wild florals and spring blossom with citrus, green apple. Introduces savoury touches to the palate in lemon skin tartness and preserved lemon which works so well with the brisk acidity. It’s quite an individual style of Riesling with a super dry, tart pithiness to close that brings mental images of sucking on a grapefruit. Could benefit from more time in the bottle."
