The Shanahans Evergreen Eden Valley Riesling 2023 is a stunning single-vineyard cool-climate Riesling sourced from the elevated High Eden subregion of Eden Valley, one of Australia’s most revered sites for producing refined, age-worthy Riesling. Crafted with meticulous attention to detail from vineyard through to bottling, this release captures extraordinary purity, aromatic lift and crystalline acidity, resulting in a wine of remarkable elegance, precision and longevity.
Only individually selected bunches were hand-picked after careful berry tasting to ensure the perfect balance of ripeness and natural acidity. Following gentle crushing and must chilling, only pristine free-run juice was retained before undergoing cool fermentation at 13–15°C using specially selected yeasts to preserve and enhance the wine’s delicate floral and citrus aromatics. Bottled under screw cap to maintain freshness and purity, this Riesling is a masterclass in cool-climate Australian winemaking.
The bouquet is beautifully expressive, opening with lifted lemon blossom, lime zest and lychee aromas layered with crisp apple and subtle orange blossom complexity. On the palate, the wine is youthful, vibrant and beautifully textural, flowing with concentrated lemon and lime citrus characters supported by fresh green apple and a precise line of natural acidity that drives exceptional length and purity. While immediately approachable, the wine possesses the structure and balance to evolve gracefully over the next five years, gradually developing layered notes of toast, honey and mature citrus complexity.
Critically acclaimed, this exceptional Riesling was awarded 97 points by Winestate Magazine, 96 points from Wine Showcase Magazine, 93 points and 5 Stars from Sam Kim and 93 points from Robert Parker Wine Advocate, cementing its place among Australia’s elite Riesling releases.
Its vibrant acidity and mineral precision make it an outstanding partner for fresh oysters, kingfish sashimi, Thai dishes with gentle spice, salt-and-pepper squid, fish and chips with lemon or fresh goat cheese salads, where the wine’s citrus energy and cool-climate finesse truly shine.
97 Point Rated - Winestate Magazine
"Pale straw wine with a green tinge, inviting brown lime-like aromas and a generous, fuller style palate with pretty perfumed fruit flavours and hints of citrus."
93 Point Rated - Sam Kim Wine Orbit
Delicate and pure, the wine shows crunchy apple, lemon sorbet and lime peel nuances on the nose, leading to a finely flowing palate that's brightly expressed and persistent. Superbly structured by fine texture and racy acidity, finishing impressively long and mouth-watering. At its best: 2025 to 2033."
96 Point Rated - Australian Wine Showcase Magazine
"Some nice lemon rind zestiness to the nose. Good quality citrusy varietal fruit and some residual sugar balanced with enough acidity to carry it."
93 Point Rated - Erin Larkin Robert Parker Wine Advocate
"The 2023 season in South Australia was a wet and cold one, and yet I have found that I have quite enjoyed the wines, albeit constructed with different, slightly lighter framing. Here, the 2023 Evergreen Eden Valley Riesling is talc-y, lean and light, with elderflower and white currant, quinine and white rose. This is austere, feathered and lovely. It's a pleasure. 11.5% alcohol, sealed under screw cap."

91 Point Rated - Dave Brookes James Halliday Wine Companion
"Light straw with aromas of Bickford's lime cordial, freshly squeezed limes, lemon and grapefruit with hints of citrus blossom, lemon cream, crushed quartz and apple sorbet. A touch of clotted cream flows in on the palate. Otherwise the flavours mimic the nose nicely, the wine flowing forward with a vivid acid line before finishing dry and grapefruit-y."
