The Oates Ends The G.W.B Margaret River Sauvignon Blanc Semillon 2023 is a vibrant and character-filled tribute to one of Australia’s most iconic white wine styles, blending Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon and a touch of Chardonnay into a fresh, expressive and beautifully balanced wine. Crafted in the spirit of Margaret River’s renowned “Great White Blend,” this release combines personality, provenance and precision, delivering both story and substance in every glass.
In the glass, it shows a pale straw hue, opening with lifted aromatics of exotic passionfruit, citrus and subtle floral notes. The palate is lively and refreshing, driven by tropical fruit from Sauvignon Blanc, while Semillon contributes zesty lemon and lime acidity, creating energy and structure. A soft, rounded mouthfeel from the Chardonnay component adds balance, leading into a clean, lengthy finish that captures both freshness and finesse.
Highly regarded, this release has earned 93 points from Cassandra Charlick of Decanter and 92 points from Ray Jordan, following a previous vintage that achieved 93 points from James Halliday, reinforcing its quality and consistency. Offered at 60% off, it represents exceptional value for a premium Margaret River blend.
Perfect for warm-weather enjoyment, it pairs beautifully with fresh seafood, oysters, grilled fish, salads or light Asian dishes, making it a versatile and refreshing choice for entertaining or everyday drinking.

“Winemaker Cath Oates says that this wine is both ‘a tribute to the great white blend of Margaret River and also in memory of the incredible support I received from the wine community following an unfortunate encounter with a white shark before vintage 2021.’ The inviting nose has just a touch of fragrant oak, adding a lovely creaminess and perfume, with lemon and lime drops, pear flesh, and spring grass crushed underfoot. There’s some nice waxiness on the palate, with lightly toasted, integrated oak. The texture is fine and detailed. Quenching salinity and green-olive brine, coriander stalk, lemongrass, glossy lemon pith and crushed minerality; it has great length, chewy phenolics and crunchy acid. The right kind of bite! This has it all. Yum. A blend of 66% Sauvignon Blanc, 28% Semillon, 6% Chardonnay; half-fermented in tank then finished in barrel; left on lees for nine months; 10% malo and 10% new French oak. Drink to 2035”

“This is a blend of sauvignon blanc, semillon and chardonnay, a sort of great white blend, which also has a connection with winemaker Cath Oates close encounter with a Great White shark. This is a zingy little number with the lively SBS supported by the power of Margaret River chardonnay. Gets just a smidgeon of oak add further interest. Leaves a lovely feel in the mouth. Cellar 6 years”
