Tasting Notes:

Chandon Blanc de Blancs NV showcases the pioneering spirit and sparkling-wine expertise of Chandon Australia, which established its home in Victoria’s Yarra Valley in 1986. Crafted entirely from Chardonnay using the traditional method, this elegant Australian Blanc de Blancs celebrates the diversity of cool-climate Chardonnay and Chandon’s reputation for producing sparkling wines of purity, vibrancy and finesse.

Fine, persistent bubbles introduce lifted aromas of lime blossom, fresh apple and fennel, with subtle hints of nuts and toast adding complexity. The palate is bright and beautifully balanced, revealing pear, Fuji apple, nectarine and ripe Meyer lemon flavours. Soft acidity and a gentle creamy texture provide elegance and depth, leading to an impressively long, refreshing finish. Awarded 95 Points by Philip Rich for the Halliday Wine Companion, along with 92 Point ratings from Ken Gargett and Angus Hughson and 91 Points from Campbell Mattinson, this is an impressive Australian sparkling wine with serious critical acclaim.

Fresh and versatile, Chandon Blanc de Blancs NV is ideal with oysters, prawns, sushi and sashimi, grilled fish, roast chicken or creamy soft cheeses, while its fine bubbles and vibrant citrus character make it equally appealing as an aperitif.

Accolades & Awards:

95 Point Rated - Philip Rich James Halliday Wine Companion

''Based on 2017 vintage (90%), 97/3% chardonnay/pinot noir, 6 g/l dosage. Bottle fermented with 24 months on lees. A bright, green gold. Aromas of struck match, toast, freshly fried crêpes as well as white stone fruits. The mousse is fine and delicate. An elegant, persistent and very well-put together wine and a ridiculously good Australian sparkling at this price.''

92 Point Rated - Ken Gargett Wine Pilot

''Chandon purchased vineyards in the spectacular Whitlands Plateau district in Victoria some years ago, one of the finest regions on the mainland for quality sparkling grapes. It tends to sneak under the radar as there is no flagship winery here, flying the flag. No matter. This region is providing material for top sparklers, such as this one. The colour here is a soft yellow green. More restrained than the Brut, there are characters of limes and white florals, like a gentle herb garden. Good flavours but here we find more elegance than with the Brut plus good length and balance. A hint of toast and there is also a touch more complexity here. So impressive.''

92 Point Rated - Angus Hughson Wine Pilot

''Blanc de Blancs – white of whites. Put simply, pale sparkling wine made from white varieties. What you need to know – these are the most elegant, refined, delicate and subtle sparkling wines, such as as Salon and Krug Clos de Mesnil. If you don’t know them – look them up. But back to this cracking value Australian sparkling wine. Pale in colour and beautifully bright with fresh brioche, white peach, and floral fruits with a vanilla accent – plenty of action for the price. And then a crisp palate with a touch of sweetness and a lingering, creamy finish – what’s not to like? It’s the perfectly pitched party starter.''

91 Point Rated - Campbell Mattinson James Halliday Wine Companion

''First release of a NV blanc de blancs from Chandon. It's a pretty wine with balance as its central theme, complexity as a subplot only. Time may well tease the latter out. It tastes of apple, lime and toast, straight down the line, though floral notes fill the picture out nicely. It's super fresh, as you'd hope and expect; personal preference will no doubt dictate but a little extra bottle age won't do it any harm.''
