The Grant Burge Nebu Barossa Valley Cabernet Shiraz 2017 is the second release of this exceptional wine, which beautifully marries the elegance of Cabernet Sauvignon with the rich, bold character of Barossa Shiraz. The cooler 2017 vintage allowed for the perfect ripening of Cabernet grapes, resulting in a wine that stands with great structure and depth. As Craig Stansborough, Chief Winemaker at Grant Burge, notes, the Cabernet Sauvignon portion could have stood alone, but once blended with Shiraz, the wine truly came alive.
The wine has a medium-dark crimson hue, signaling its depth and power. On the nose, there is an inviting combination of black coffee, dark mint chocolate, and earthy notes, characteristic of the Cabernet. As the wine breathes, the Barossa Shiraz shines through with aromas of plum, dark cherry, and a hint of spice, creating a rich and harmonious bouquet.
The palate offers a vibrant and complex experience. The Cabernet notes continue on the palate with dark mint chocolate, berries, and rich black coffee, adding depth to the smooth, creamy finish. The luxurious texture of this wine pairs perfectly with roasted red meats and rich chocolate desserts, making it a versatile and indulgent option for any special occasion.
Drinking beautifully now, but with excellent aging potential, this wine will continue to evolve and develop complexity through 2040.
95 Point Rated - Huon Hooke The Real Review
"Deep red colour with a good purple tinge. The bouquet showcases assorted red fruits with notes of rose-petals and raspberry. Oak is very much under control, which is very pleasing. It's intense, full-bodied, firm and fresh in the mouth, with great poise and persistence. The cabernet and shiraz components are perceptible but combine seamlessly. An impressive new arrow in this producer's quiver."

"A blend of selected barrels, the 2017 Nebu Cabernet Shiraz is only the second vintage for this cuvée, which matured in 18% new French oak hogsheads, with the rest from one to five years old. It comes across as being a bit oaky, with bold vanilla and baking-spice aromas on the nose. In the mouth, there's a fine balance between Cabernet's fragrance and length with Shiraz's roundness on the mid-palate. The softly dusty tannins on the finish suggest holding for a year or two, then drinking over the next decade or so."

"A 61/39% blend, crushed and destemmed, 6-8 days on skins, matured in French barriques for 18 months. A firm, full-bodied cabernet with savoury/green olive flavours. "
