The colour is dark garnet. Aromas of sweet spice, plum, dark cherry and black pepper dominates the nose. The palate is complex with sweet plumb/cherry fruits, tobacco, hints of cassis and soft toasty oak. Beautiful fine tannin gives structure to the wine while adding suppleness and length to the finish.
Seville saw a mild start to spring with good fruit set, although the warm November showed promise for a early vintage with fanatic growth. Victoria experienced it’s 3rd warmest January on record with Seville experiencing 4 days over 40°C. The average rainfall was 7.1mm above average which helped balance the vine stress. Luckily the low disease pressure allowed us sufficient canopy cover reducing sunburn on the fruit. The Shiraz was picked on 10th April showing great fruit intensity and balanced acidity.
96 Point Rated - James Halliday Wine Companion
"Superb colour, deep, but bright, crimson-purple. A more profound version of its junior sister, everything on the dial turned up: very complex red and black cherry fruits, and notes of pepper and black licorice. Finely tuned tannins, French oak and some whole bunch see it through to a long finish."
96 Point Rated - Gary Walsh The Wine Front
"Blackberry, spice, pepper, new leather, floral too, but with light smoky reduction and stalkiness. Medium bodied, glorious graphite tannin, cool acidity, intense but sotto voce black and red fruit flavour, fine and very long. Wafts of perfume, spice and fresh berries in the aftertaste. Finesse and old vine power at play."
94 Point Rated - Huon Hooke The Real Review
"Bright, youthful, deepish purple/red colour. Fresh raspberry and red cherry aromas, not overtly oaky, the palate intense and fine, with sharp tannins, mouth-watering acidity and excellent balance. There is harmony and drinkability here, the tannins are fine but just need a little ageing to soften off. A fine, elegant, long-flavoured and already quite complex shiraz. A classy wine, with good ageing potential."
