Founded in 1859 by William Salter & Sons, Saltram Wines has built a remarkable legacy of more than 160 years of winemaking excellence in the Barossa Valley. As one of the first landowners in the region, William Salter's vision of quality and innovation remains ingrained in every bottle of wine produced by Saltram, with the Saltram No 1 Shiraz being one of the winery's most decorated and iconic wines.

The 2017 vintage was sourced from low-yielding, hand-selected vines, primarily along the Eastern fringe of the Barossa Valley floor. The conditions in the 2016/17 growing season were cooler than average, which extended the growing period, allowing for balanced grape maturation and enhanced fruit character. With regular rainfall and mild conditions, the season allowed for excellent set and flowering, leading to exceptional quality fruit with rich flavour profiles and natural acidity.

The Saltram No 1 Shiraz 2017 showcases the depth and power typical of iconic Barossa Shiraz. It was crafted using traditional methods in open fermenters, followed by maturation in French oak to bring out its complex, structured flavour. This wine is rich in both colour and flavour, with prominent aromas of ripe plums, black olives, and dark cherries, complemented by hints of cocoa and anise. The palate is dense and velvety, with a seamless integration of rich dark fruits, spices, and chalky tannins that deliver an exceptional finish.

Awarded 97 Points by Tyson Stelzer and Gold Medals at the Royal Adelaide Wine Show 2022, this wine is a true testament to the Barossa’s ability to produce wines with immense structure and complexity.
