Magarey Lane Coonawarra Shiraz 2022 is a refined and expressive cool-climate Shiraz that captures the distinctive character of South Australia’s renowned Coonawarra region. Sourced from a 35-year-old vineyard, the fruit benefits from low yields and the region’s famous terra rossa soils, delivering purity, structure and depth. The grapes were gently crushed with a portion of whole berries retained in the fermenter to extend fermentation and build complexity. After 10–15 days on skins, the must was gravity pressed through a bag press before the free-run and pressings were combined to enhance structure.
Following fermentation and malolactic conversion in tank, the wine matured for 18 months in a combination of French and American oak barrels and hogsheads. Each barrel was individually assessed before blending, ensuring balance and harmony in the final wine.
The nose opens with rich dark-fruit aromas layered with concentrated red berry notes typical of Coonawarra Shiraz. On the palate, ripe blackberry and plum flavours are complemented by subtle oak, pepper spice and savoury complexity. Fine tannins provide texture and structure, while refreshing natural acidity drives a long, balanced finish.
This impressive release has earned 95 Points from Sam Kim (Wine Orbit), 94 Points from Wine Showcase Magazine and 93 Points from Ken Gargett (Winepilot), highlighting its quality and regional pedigree.
A superb partner for grilled lamb, slow-cooked beef stew, venison or aged hard cheeses, this Shiraz is drinking beautifully now yet has the structure to develop further complexity with careful cellaring.

"Wonderfully ripe and enticing, the wine shows blackberry, cake spice, cedar, game and dark chocolate aromas on the nose, leading to a concentrated palate displaying plump mouthfeel backed by layers of silky tannins, finishing long and opulent. At its best: now to 2040"

"From a single vineyard in Coonawarra, and a top vintage, the colour here is a near black hue. It is a ripe and chocolatey style with notes of black olives, cloves, blackberries, plums and of course, chocolate. There is good focus throughout, through to fine, sleek tannins. Good balance and terrific persistence. This is delicious drinking now and surely at least over the next six to eight years."
