The Stonehaven Reserve Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 is an exceptional expression of the renowned Coonawarra wine region in South Australia. This Cabernet is crafted from only the most exceptional fruit, ensuring that every bottle embodies the quality and elegance that Stonehaven Wines has become known for over the years. Using time-honoured winemaking techniques, this wine presents fresh, lively aromas with a soft and supple structure that draws you in from the first sniff.
On the nose, the wine bursts with enticing aromas of ripe blackberry, cherry, and a touch of spicy oak, creating a beautifully complex bouquet. The palate is equally impressive, offering rich and layered flavors that reflect the ripe fruit character, with fine tannins providing structure and depth. The wine’s balanced acidity and lingering finish contribute to a refined, elegant profile, making it a wine that can be enjoyed now or cellared for future enjoyment.
Rated 97 points by James Halliday Wine Companion, this wine has garnered acclaim across the industry, with 96 points and 5 stars from Sam Kim of Wine Orbit, 95 points from Ray Jordan of Wine Pilot, and a Gold Medal from Wine Showcase Magazine. This Cabernet Sauvignon is a perfect companion to hearty dishes such as grilled steak, slow-roasted lamb, or a rich beef Wellington. It also pairs beautifully with aged cheeses, like cheddar or gouda, that complement its full-bodied richness.

"Sourced from adjacent rows of 40yo vines using archetypal cabernet vinification. Hand-pruned to control the yield to 5t/ha; cold maceration and pressed directly to oak for 18 months in French hogsheads. This is a seriously good cabernet that has taken full advantage of an excellent vintage courtesy of skilled vinification by winemaker Ben Wurst. Its length is exceptional, as is its structure and slinky tannins, part fruit, part oak."

"This is superbly fruited and complex on the nose, showing crème de cassis, anise, vanillin oak and dark chocolate aromas. The palate offers excellent concentration and plush texture, wonderfully complemented by expansive mouthfeel and finely infused tannins. Long and satisfying with plenty of delicious flavours. At its best: now to 2039."

Under diam, this hails from a 40-year-old vineyard in Coonawarra. After an extended maceration, this was pressed directly to French oak hogsheads for 18 months maturation. Inky purple. This is concentrated, plush, focused. The nose offers alluring blackberries, licorice, beef stock, spices, a hint of mint and warm bitumen. Balanced, elegant, intense and very long, with silky tannins. This is one for the long haul. The palate moves to notes of bergamot and mulberries. There is early evidence of the complexity which is surely to come. Drink over the next ten to fifteen years."

"An excitable start is highlighted by cool mint, blackberries and blackcurrants. Dried sage and thyme step forward with time in the glass. There is no denying the richness and generosity although it is a little linear. Some more bottle should help this flesh out. Drying, puckering cocoa tannins create the urge for more with a deft touch of blueberry sweetness on close.""

"Dark maroon coloured, with this Liquid Mars Bar oak all over the nose. Indeed, that oak is dominant on oak and palate, like liquid coffee and chocolate. It’s berried, so smooth and plush too, all making for this seamless, and quite powerful Cabernet."
91 Point Rated - Wine Front
"It’s a clean. solid, well-made wine with raspberry, blackcurrant, cola and cedarwood flavours doing most of the grunt work. There are mint and bay leaf notes here too, giving it a clear varietal definition, though what it mostly tastes of is fresh fruit. Tannin is present but not in command; there’s a softness to this wine, an ease, in a flavoursome context."
