Tasting Notes:

Lifted aromatics with vibrant black fruits of cherry, blackberry and mulberry with underlying notes of cinnamon, woodsy spice and a hint of smokey oak. Generous layers of black and red fruits, balanced with elegant savoury spice and fine, velvety tannins, bright acidity ensuring it finishes long and pure.

Technical:

It is a rarity to get healthy yields like we had in 2021, and at the same time, impressive depth of colour and intensity of flavour. While not as cool as 2012 or 2017, the mild conditions around harvest made for perfect ripening. Pleasingly the wines show a vibrance and elegance expressed in the best cooler years, but not without trademark Barossa generosity. The Shiraz was sourced from old vineyards in the Krondorf, Ebenezer and Tanunda regions, Grenache from Ebenezer, Tanunda and Eden Valley regions and Mourvèdre from Ebenezer and Light Pass regions. The parcels of fruit were fermented separately with a submerged cap in small open stainless-steel fermenters. A portion of the Grenache ferment included whole bunches to accentuate the savoury aspects of the variety. Barrel maturated for 15 months, with 10% new fine grain French oak hogsheads (300 litre barrels); with the balance seasoned hogsheads and puncheons. A portion of Grenache was aged in tank to promote freshness. The final blend assemblage comprised. Shiraz (48%), Grenache (28%) and Mourvèdre (24%).

Accolades & Awards:

96 Point Rated - Andrew Caillard MW The Vintage Journal
“Deep crimson. Lovely dark plum. Blackberry, mocha aromas with lifted liquorice notes. A well-balanced wine with deep set blackberry, dark plum, dark chocolate fruits, fine cedary, gravelly tannins and integrated walnutty, sandalwood notes. Chocolaty finish. Now – 2032.”

94 Point Rated - Dave Brookes Halliday Wine Companion
A blend of 48/28/24% shiraz/grenache/mataro aged for 15 months in French oak. Bright aromas of red and dark plum, mulberry and boysenberry mesh with hints of earth, licorice, spice, roasting meats and violets. Lovely fruit purity with tight-grained tannin providing the framework and bright acidity the pulse, finishing plush and pure. A wonderful red.

92 Point Rated - Stuart Knox The Real Review
Deep ruby into a vivid purple rim. Mulberry, black olive and graphite aromas. Richly weighted with sweet black and blue fruits along with ironstone filling the senses. Tannins are supple and guide it well to a long finish. For now, it is still very youthful, but the intensity and drive will ensure it builds as it matures.
