Tasting Notes:

Incredibly deep red, almost black in colour, this wine shows all the usual blackberry, star anise and ferrous characters that we have come to expect from this site. Rich and ripe on the palate, it displays plenty of texture and length driven by the robust natural tannins present. Excellent cellaring potential.

Technical:

The fruit for this comes from the two oldest blocks of Shiraz on the vineyard. Varying percentages of both blocks make up the Premium depending on the year.

Accolades & Awards:

94 Point Rated - James Halliday Wine Companion

"It's not the brightest card in the pack but it may well be the blackest. This is a deep set wine, crammed with asphalt, caramel and bay leaf flavour, the finish grandly (and warmly) tannic. Heavy wine in a heavy bottle."

91 Point Rated - Gary Walsh The Wine Front

"Here’s a pretty thick and bold Shiraz. Coffee grounds, brick dust, mint and ripe blackberry. It’s very full bodied, sluicing through the mouth with a wanton flood of ripe black fruits, leather and black olive, carries some warm alcohol and finishes with grainy tannin and truffle. Will find admirers."

91 Point Rated - Huon Hooke The Real Review

"Deep, dense red/purple colour; dense concentrated chocolaty aromas, a trace of creosote or machine oil. Slightly porty rum and raisin chocolate. The palate is big and super-ripe, with a touch of portiness, high alcohol heat and a slightly clumsy tannin structure. A big softie. There is almost unctuous fruit sweetness and this wine will have many friends."
