Tasting Notes:

Château Margaux 1999 is a stunning expression of one of Bordeaux’s most prestigious First Growths, showcasing the elegance, harmony, and depth for which the estate is renowned. The wine, a true classic from this exceptional producer, is medium-bodied with a smooth texture that speaks to the wine's meticulous craftsmanship. The 1999 vintage exhibits the signature Margaux traits of crushed black cherries and violets, which make this wine so iconic.

As the wine opens, subtle notes of raspberry reserve and desiccated orange peel emerge, enhancing the complexity of the long, graceful finish. Despite its age, the wine still exhibits a hint of new oak that has yet to be fully assimilated, contributing to its evolving character and adding a layer of richness. This wine’s impeccable balance, elegance, and refined finish make it a remarkable example of Château Margaux at its best.

Rated 94 points by William Kelley and Robert Parker of Wine Advocate, 94 points by James Suckling of Wine Spectator, and 93 points by Stephen Tanzer, the 1999 Château Margaux is widely celebrated for its maturity, depth, and ongoing aging potential. It remains an outstanding vintage, perfect for collectors or those seeking a memorable wine experience.

Pair this exceptional Bordeaux with dishes like roasted lamb, beef Wellington, or a rich duck confit. Its complexity and elegance also make it a perfect companion for aged cheeses like Comté or blue cheese.

Accolades & Awards:

94 Point Rated - William Kelly Wine Advocate

"The 1999 Château Margaux is an immensely charming wine that's drinking beautifully today from both bottle and, in this case, magnum. Bursting with aromas of blackcurrants, blackberries and violets framed by subtle hints of cigar box, it's medium to full-bodied, supple and sensual, with an enveloping core of fruit, ripe and melting tannins and a long, penetrating finish. Analogies with the immensely charming 1985 vintage are very persuasive, as the 1999 is quite reminiscent of how the 1985 tasted fifteen years ago."

94 Point Rated - James Suckling Wine Spectator

"A tight and silky red, with lots to offer? Currant, tobacco and cherry character, medium to full body, fine tannins and a long, long finish. Just needs time. Best after 2006."

94 Point Rated - Robert Parker Wine Advocate

"The sexy, dark plum/purple-colored 1999 Margaux is already revealing complex aromatics. This surprisingly charming and round offering is reminiscent of a vintage such as 1985. Although neither a blockbuster nor a heavyweight, it grows in the mouth revealing tremendous length as well as purity. Administrator Paul Pontallier prefers it to the more austere 1998, as do I. This is an archetypical Chateau Margaux of richness, finesse, balance, and symmetry. It can be drunk young, but promises to age nicely for two decades. Extrapolating backwards, it would probably have something in common with the underrated 1962 Medocs."

93 Point Rated - Stephen Tanzer

"Offers decadent aromas of walnut, raspberry and mulberry. Very complex. Full-bodied, with an earthy, lightly vanilla, berry, coffee bean and floral flavor. Refined and caressing. Very, very subtle. Why wait? —'89/'99 Bordeaux blind retrospective (2009)."
