Tasting Notes:

The d'Arenberg The Galvo Garage McLaren Vale Cabernet Blend 2018 is a refined Bordeaux-inspired blend crafted in the winery's historic corrugated iron "garage", built in 1927 and still home to the traditional equipment used to handcraft this exceptional wine. Produced by one of Australia's most respected family-owned wineries, this small-batch release highlights d'Arenberg's commitment to traditional winemaking and premium McLaren Vale fruit.

A blend of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14% Merlot, 13% Petit Verdot and 3% Cabernet Franc, the wine is basket pressed and matured in a combination of new and seasoned French oak before bottling without fining or filtration. Aromas of blackcurrant, cassis, herbs and leafy freshness are complemented by subtle capsicum and spice. The palate is rich and layered, combining blackcurrant, liquorice and roasted capsicum with plush Merlot texture, while Petit Verdot contributes dark blueberry and floral notes. Fine, polished tannins provide balance and structure, leading to a long, elegant finish.

Awarded 94 Points at the Winestate Cabernet & Bordeaux Challenge, 93 Points by Nick Stock, 93 Points by David Walker Bell (WineFolio) and 91 Points at the Decanter World Wine Awards, this premium Cabernet blend is a superb match for roast lamb, beef fillet, slow-cooked short ribs or aged cheddar. Drinking beautifully now, it also has the structure to reward further cellaring.

"A wine from McLaren Vale that’s a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc. With a few years in bottle, this is ready to drink now, but you could cellar it for years (if you wanted to). A dense, inky purple colour, with a lovely, Bordeaux-like perfume. Take that and add some good ripe Aussie fruit, and this a very tasty New World take on an Old World style. Brimming with blackcurrant, mint, cherry, cedar, plum, pencil shavings, thyme and black pepper on the nose. The fruit takes centre stage into the palate – plush, concentrated and weighty. Plenty of personality – there’s spice, herbs and some minerality as well as savoury notes of tapenade, roast beet and green capsicum plus a resinous, earthy note. A balance of dry – the tannins are quite firm – and juicy, with a bright acidity. The finish is excellent – peppery, dry and long."

91 Point Rated - Decanter Wine Awards 2022
"A dense and concentrated wine with ripe, bright black fruits and fine tannins. Powerful, long and gutsy, it will also do well with time."
