Tasting Notes:

The d'Arenberg High Trellis McLaren Vale Cabernet Sauvignon 2022 is a benchmark Cabernet from one of McLaren Vale's most historic vineyards. Planted in the 19th century, the renowned High Trellis vineyard earned its name as the first in the region to be trained above knee height and famously produced the Jimmy Watson Trophy-winning wine at the 1969 Melbourne Wine Show. Today, it remains one of d'Arenberg's flagship Cabernet releases.

Crafted using traditional open fermentation, basket pressing and maturation in seasoned French oak barriques, the wine is bottled without fining or filtration to preserve its character. Lifted aromas of blackcurrant, black cherry and plum are complemented by hints of liquorice. The palate is rich and layered, showcasing dark berry fruit, dark chocolate, mocha and Dutch liquorice, supported by plush tannins and balanced natural acidity that drive a long, refined finish with excellent cellaring potential.

Awarded 92 Points by Sam Kim (Wine Orbit), 92 Points by Ken Gargett (Wine Pilot) and 91 Points by Joshua Greene (Wine & Spirits Magazine), this premium Cabernet Sauvignon pairs beautifully with grilled rib-eye, slow-cooked beef, roast lamb or aged hard cheeses. Rich, structured and unmistakably McLaren Vale, it is a classic Australian Cabernet built to enjoy now or cellar for years to come.

Accolades & Awards:

92 Point Rated - Sam Kim Wine Orbit

''It's delightfully fruited and fragrant on the nose with aromas of blackcurrant, tobacco, fennel, and nutmeg. The palate delivers succulent fruit intensity with supple texture and grainy tannins, finishing sturdy and lingering with complex flavours.''

92 Point Rated - Ken Gargett Wine Pilot

''Again, traditional foot treading takes place 2/3rds of the way through fermentation, with the fermentation then completed in old French oak barriques and a maturation of twenty months. An opaque maroon hue, the aromas weave through dried herbs, black olives, bay leaves, licorice, chocolate, soy and coffee grinds. The wine opens with plushness and generosity and exhibits excellent extract. There are slick tannins on the finish, which does fade a little, but the wine is still thoroughly enjoyable drinking and should be that and more over the next ten years.''

Marcus Ellis - James Halliday Wine Companion

''Heightened aromatics, initially focusing on cabernet’s hedgerow/herbal side, albeit with a cohort of dark fruits swelling beneath. Cassis and crème de mûre, raisin-studded chocolate, mint, lavender pastille. Tannins are less classically linear and more gruffly arrayed and shaped, a little cool and drying, the acidity pert.''
