Tasting Notes:

The Torbreck Vintners The Struie Barossa Valley Shiraz 2024 is a magnificent expression of modern Barossa Shiraz, seamlessly blending the lifted elegance of high-altitude Eden Valley fruit with the richness and power of classic Barossa Valley vineyards. Crafted from carefully selected parcels vinified separately in open-top fermenters before basket pressing and extended maturation in French oak barriques for around 18 months, this unfined and unfiltered Shiraz delivers remarkable purity, structure and depth while retaining Torbreck’s unmistakable signature style.

The outstanding 2024 growing season provided ideal ripening conditions, with timely spring rainfall, calm flowering weather and a mild-to-warm summer producing fruit of exceptional colour, fragrance and concentration. Eden Valley parcels contribute vibrant aromatics and structure, while the lower Barossa sites add plush richness and density, resulting in a beautifully poised wine balancing regional power with finesse and elegance.

In the glass, the wine is deeply opaque with a dark aubergine core. Aromatically, it bursts with lifted black and blue fruits — blueberry, mulberry, blackberry and black plum — intertwined with layers of graphite, sandalwood, liquorice and dark cocoa chocolate. The palate is plush, textured and immensely satisfying, flowing with concentrated dark fruits framed by soft, rounded tannins and subtle earthy forest floor complexity. Rich fruit and vibrant acidity intertwine seamlessly through the mouthfeel, creating a polished, glossy finish with impressive length and refinement.

Critically acclaimed, this release earned 96 points from Huon Hooke at The Real Review and 95 points from Erin Larkin for Wine Advocate, while the previous vintage achieved an extraordinary 99-point score from Matthew Jukes, reinforcing The Struie’s reputation as one of Australia’s benchmark Shiraz wines. Built to reward careful cellaring for up to fifteen years, it will be particularly spectacular across its first decade of maturity.

This luxurious Barossa Shiraz is exceptional alongside Texas-style barbecue ribs, chargrilled rib-eye steak, slow-cooked beef brisket, lamb shoulder, venison or rich mushroom ragù, where its depth, spice and silky tannin structure truly come alive.

Accolades & Awards:

96 Point Rated - Huon Hooke The Real Review

"Deep, dark red-purple colour with terrestrial aromas summoning dry earth, terracotta, forest underbrush on a hot day, and chocolate. Full bodied and fleshy with loads of supple ripe tannins and smooth, supple texture. There's a subtle vegetable note that reminds us we are in Eden Valley for at least part of the wine—traces of sage and raspberry that are typical of the higher country. The wine has elegance and harmony aplenty."

95 Point Rated - Erin Larkin Wine Advocate

"The 2024 The Struie is from Barossa Valley (70%) and the balance Eden Valley. The blend composition changes year to year. This is silky and dark, velvety and intense in the mouth. I love the hedonistic way of this wine—it carries the alcohol and the weight with ease. While ripe and powerful, it feels effortless and polished. The blue fruit/graphite component contributed by the Eden Valley fruit is an important part of the way this wine tastes. 15.5% alcohol, sealed under natural cork."
