Tasting Notes:

The lead up to the 2024 harvest saw timely spring rainfall and calm conditions for flowering and fruit set. A mild to warm summer was idyllic, propelling even growth and fruit development. A warm early summer brought on shiraz showing bright colours and fragrance, persisting for several weeks accelerating to powerful dark fruit and fragrantly spiced characteristics.

A cooler break mid-April allowed grenache and mataro vineyards to develop deep colours and firm tannins. With harvest concluding on the 19th of April, we are extremely pleased with the strength and diversity of wines made from the 2024 season.

The Struie is a blend of Shiraz from high-altitude Eden Valley vineyards and lower-elevation Barossa Valley sites. Eden fruit contributes structure and lifted aromatics, while Barossa parcels provide richness and depth. Each vineyard is vinified separately in open-top fermenters. The wines are basket-pressed and matured in a mix of seasoned and select new French oak barriques for around 18 months. Bottled unfined and unfiltered, The Struie is a poised, expressive Shiraz combining elegance with regional power.

Opaque with dark Aubergine core. Lifted aromas of black and blue fruits. Blueberry, mulberry, blackberry and black plum leap from the glass and meld effortlessly with graphite, sandalwood, liquorice and dark cocoa chocolate. On first sip the palate is welcoming and plush with abundant black and blue fruits and soft round tannins and an earthy forest floor note adding complexity. The fruit and acid intermingle nicely across the textured mouthfeel along a line of soft plush tannins and glossy fruits. A true pleasure that will reward for up to fifteen years but probably best in the first ten. Ready from 2026. Serve at 16C/55F with Texas BBQ rib, or any of your favourite steaks.

Accolades & Awards:

96 Point Rated - Huon Hooke The Real Review

"Deep, dark red-purple colour with terrestrial aromas summoning dry earth, terracotta, forest underbrush on a hot day, and chocolate. Full bodied and fleshy with loads of supple ripe tannins and smooth, supple texture. There's a subtle vegetable note that reminds us we are in Eden Valley for at least part of the wine—traces of sage and raspberry that are typical of the higher country. The wine has elegance and harmony aplenty."

95 Point Rated - Erin Larkin Wine Advocate

"The 2024 The Struie is from Barossa Valley (70%) and the balance Eden Valley. The blend composition changes year to year. This is silky and dark, velvety and intense in the mouth. I love the hedonistic way of this wine—it carries the alcohol and the weight with ease. While ripe and powerful, it feels effortless and polished. The blue fruit/graphite component contributed by the Eden Valley fruit is an important part of the way this wine tastes. 15.5% alcohol, sealed under natural cork."
