The St Hugo Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon 2022 is a flagship Australian Cabernet Sauvignon that exemplifies the precision, elegance and cellaring potential for which St Hugo is renowned. Sourced from carefully selected vineyards across Coonawarra, only the finest parcels displaying exceptional colour, varietal purity and tannin structure were chosen for the final blend. Traditional winemaking techniques, including gentle extraction and 18 months' maturation in French oak (41% new), have created a Cabernet Sauvignon of outstanding depth, balance and refinement.
Deep ruby with a vibrant crimson rim, the bouquet reveals classic aromas of cassis, blackcurrant and dark plum layered with cedar, dried herbs and subtle oak spice. The full-bodied palate is rich and beautifully structured, delivering concentrated dark berry fruit supported by fine-grained tannins, elegant French oak and vibrant natural acidity. Complex yet beautifully composed, the wine finishes long and savoury with lingering notes of dark fruit, cedar and spice, showcasing the hallmark finesse of premium Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon.
A superb match for chargrilled beef, roast lamb, venison, slow-cooked short ribs or mature hard cheeses, the St Hugo Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon 2022 is drinking beautifully now and has the pedigree to reward careful cellaring for many years to come.
91 Point Rated Dave Brookes Halliday Wine Companion
''Deep magenta/crimson with bright aromas of blackberry, blackcurrant and black cherry. Hints of brown spice, violets, cassis, licorice, crushed herbs, cedar and earth. Medium bodied with ripe yet savoury-edged black fruits, fine-grained, grippy tannins, quite pronounced acidity and a medium-length finish.''
