Tasting Notes:

Rolf Binder Heysen Barossa Valley Shiraz 2022 is a richly concentrated and beautifully composed expression of Barossa Shiraz, sitting just below the flagship Hanisch in the esteemed Rolf Binder portfolio. Named after the iconic 1,200 kilometre Heysen Walking Trail that traces the western edge of the estate, this wine draws its fruit from the low-yielding Chri-Ro vineyard, planted in 1972, delivering depth, intensity and a strong sense of place.

In the glass, it reveals a deep, crimson hue, immediately signalling its power and concentration. The nose opens with ripe wild berry aromas layered with oak spice and subtle savoury undertones, reflecting both vineyard pedigree and careful maturation. On the palate, it is luscious and full-bodied, unfolding with generous flavours of blackberry, plum and spice, supported by well-rounded tannins and a beautifully balanced structure. There is a softness and elegance that carries through the wine, ensuring it remains refined despite its richness, finishing long, smooth and persistent with impressive length. With the previous vintage achieving 95 points from Huon Hooke (The Real Review) and 96 points from Tyson Stelzer (Halliday Wine Companion), alongside its origin from a 5 Red Star rated winery by James Halliday, this release continues a legacy of excellence and consistency in premium Barossa Shiraz.

This is a wine that rewards both immediate enjoyment and careful cellaring, pairing seamlessly with slow-roasted lamb, grilled rib-eye, braised beef dishes or rich, hearty mushroom-based meals, where its depth and structure enhance every flavour.
