Tasting Notes:

Kilikanoon Omen Shiraz 2021 is a powerful yet elegantly structured expression of South Australian Shiraz, crafted by the prestigious James Halliday Winery of the Year and showcasing the depth and precision that define Kilikanoon’s winemaking. Sourced from low-yielding parcels across premium regions and matured in the Clare Valley, this release reflects a masterful approach to multi-regional blending, delivering both richness and refinement in equal measure.

The vintage conditions played a crucial role in shaping the wine’s character, with early spring rains followed by a cool finish to summer allowing for extended ripening and the development of exceptional flavour concentration. Each parcel was vinified separately and matured for 14 months in a combination of new and seasoned French oak hogsheads, building complexity, structure and seamless integration.

In the glass, it presents a deep inky purple hue, immediately signalling its intensity. The nose is seductive and layered, offering aromas of blackberry, vanilla and plum, intertwined with pepper, eucalyptus and hints of liquorice. On the palate, it is rich, smooth and beautifully balanced, with plush dark fruit at its core evolving into notes of dark chocolate, mint and spice. Fine, powdery tannins and a vibrant line of acidity create structure and length, leading to a long, velvety finish that lingers with elegance and depth. With its pedigree as part of a James Halliday Winery of the Year producer and its carefully crafted profile, this Shiraz stands as a benchmark for modern South Australian reds.

Equally impressive at the table, it pairs seamlessly with rosemary lamb cutlets, slow-cooked beef, chargrilled steaks or aged vintage cheddar, while its structure and balance also make it ideal for cellaring through to 2040, rewarding patience with even greater complexity.
