Tasting Notes:

The John Duval Entity Shiraz 2023 is a benchmark Barossa Shiraz crafted by legendary John Duval, the former Penfolds Grange Chief Winemaker, whose reputation for producing some of Australia's finest wines is recognised worldwide. Sourced from mature vineyards across Krondorf, Marananga, Ebenezer, Moppa and Eden Valley, the blend combines 65% Barossa Valley and 35% Eden Valley fruit, capturing both the power of the Barossa and the elegance of Eden Valley. Despite a cooler La Niña-influenced growing season, the 2023 vintage delivered healthy crops and beautifully balanced fruit with outstanding concentration and finesse.

Each vineyard parcel was fermented separately in small stainless steel fermenters before spending 15 months in French oak, including 25% new fine-grain French oak hogsheads, with the balance matured in seasoned hogsheads and puncheons. The result is a Shiraz of remarkable complexity and structure, crafted to be enjoyed in its youth while possessing the depth and balance to cellar gracefully for 15 years or more.

The bouquet reveals vibrant aromas of dark berries, ripe plum and blue fruits, layered with hints of anise, sage and clove. The palate is rich and beautifully concentrated, unfolding with generous blackberry, blueberry and plum flavours supported by notes of dark chocolate, earth and subtle spice. Fine, supple tannins and perfectly integrated French oak create exceptional balance, leading to a long, refined finish that exemplifies the quality of this premium Barossa Shiraz.

Awarded 96 Points by Dave Brookes (Halliday Wine Companion), 96 Points by The Vintage Journal, and 95 Points by Stuart Knox (The Real Review), the John Duval Entity Shiraz 2023 is an outstanding companion to premium steaks, roast lamb, slow-cooked beef, venison and aged hard cheeses. A world-class Shiraz from one of Australia's most celebrated winemakers.

Accolades & Awards:

96 Point Rated - The Vintage Journal
"From old vines across the Barossa and the Eden Valley, the wine saw barrel maturation for 15 months, including 21% in new hogsheads. The remainder spent time in older hogsheads and puncheons. A dark cherry/maroon colour, there are coffee bean, mocha and cassis notes to the fore, supported by black fruits, liqueur cherry and warm earth touches. Bright and juicy acidity runs the full journey and there is serious length here. Intensity is maintained throughout and the wine finishes with silky tannins. This is serious and exciting stuff."

96 Point Rated  Dave Brookes - Halliday Wine Companion
"A wonderfully pure-smelling shiraz from John Duval from grapes sourced across a number of Barossan subregions – Krondorf, Marananga, Ebenezer, Moppa and Eden Valley. There is a real plushness to the fruit here; all juicy doris plum, blueberry and boysenberry with hints of licorice, violets, roasting meats, citrus blossom and earth. The silty tannins drift way back in the fruit this year and the finish is long and graceful, with the real spotlight on that fruit purity."

95 Point Rated Stuart Knox - The Real Review
"Deep ruby with purple tint at the rim. Mulberry, ironstone and nori on the nose. Palate has wonderful weight and intensity, plush purple and blue fruits are layered with ironstone minerality, dark chocolate oak notes and hints of black spices. Great length, tannins supple but driving it long and filling their roll well to the finish."
