The Glaetzer Anaperenna Barossa Valley Shiraz Cabernet 2022 is a powerful yet beautifully refined expression of the famed Ebenezer sub-district, where exceptional old-vine Shiraz (30–100 years) and Cabernet Sauvignon (30–130 years) grown at tiny yields of just 2.5 tonnes per hectare deliver astonishing concentration and purity. In the glass, it shows an opaque purple core that fades to a vibrant ruby edge, promising depth and longevity. The nose opens with blackcurrant, blackberry, ripe plum, fennel seed, fresh thyme and a whisper of black pepper, all rising from fruit fermented in small open fermenters and hand-plunged daily before spending 16 months in 100% new French and American oak hogsheads to build complexity, structure and elegance.
On the palate, the Cabernet Sauvignon acts like a fine-tuned viewfinder, bringing focus and direction to the richness of the Shiraz, which delivers an expansive wave of dark berry flavours layered with spice, cocoa and subtle oak sweetness. The texture is lavish yet controlled, with supple tannins and extraordinary length, a hallmark of Ben Glaetzer’s style. This 82% Shiraz / 18% Cabernet blend is poised, deeply expressive and already impressive, yet structured to mature beautifully through to 2040 and beyond for those who appreciate the evolution of great Barossa reds.
Exceptional critical acclaim underscores its pedigree, including 96 Points & 5 Stars from Sam Kim Wine Orbit, 96 Points from Ray Jordan Winepilot, 96 Points from Ken Gargett Winepilot, and 95 Points from Erin Larkin for Robert Parker Wine Advocate. A wine of power, precision and seamless harmony, it is superb with richly flavoured dishes such as slow-braised beef cheek, char-grilled lamb cutlets, pepper-crusted steak or hard aged cheeses.
96 Point Rated 5 Stars - Sam Kim Wine Orbit
"The wine offers stunning fruit purity and stylish complexity, showing cassis, blueberry, violet, fennel, cigar, and cedar characters on the nose. It's wonderfully weighted and mouth-filling on the palate, offering terrific fruit power with spicy nuances, backed by refined texture and chalky tannins. Gorgeously composed and expressed with a great line and length."
96 Point Rated - Ray Jordan Wine Pilot
"Exceptional old vine Ebenezer fruit has been brought in to create this wonderfully expressive Barossa blend. The Shiraz from vines up to 100 years old and the Cabernet up to 130 years old. It’s a remarkable resource that Glaetzer has harnessed expertly to capture every last bit of that intensity and power. Rich, dark chocolate and blackberry plummy flavours swirl through a dense and concentrated palate. Having said all that, it retains an elegance and gracefulness."

"The great Aussie red blend from a top year and a producer nearing cult status. This is heavily Shiraz dominant – 82%, to just 18% Cabernet. From the Ebenezer sub-region, the yield overall is just two and a half tonnes per hectare. The Shiraz vines range in age between 30 and 100 years, while the Cabernet is even more impressive, between 30 and 130 years. The wine spent sixteen months maturing in hogsheads, all new, with 92% of them French and the remaining 8% American. Under cork. This is a bit special. An opaque maroon, we have notes of blackberries, cold tea, chocolate and mocha with some soy, bay leaves, dried herbs and graphite also evident. A wine with a supple texture and immense length, this is seamless, with the intensity never wavering for a moment. There is oak, but it is immaculately handled and simply adds to the overall impression of a brilliant wine. Fifteen years ahead of it, without a hiccup. It is cracking buying."
95 Point Rated - Erin Larkin Robert Parker Wine Advocate
"The 2022 Anaperenna Shiraz Cabernet Sauvignon is so attractive on the nose, with red berries and roses, abundant, glossy fruits and an attractive balance of spice to go with it. These Glaetzer wines are full-bodied yet sleek, and while this is certainly ripe, it is in no way dull or overdone because of that. It has notes of raspberry, dark chocolate, cherry (ripe in its way) and licorice. There are layers of jubes/pastilles, plump fruit, earth and plenty of ductile tannin, and oak is tucked away in there too—all things writ large yet svelte. 15% alcohol, sealed under screw cap."

"A deeply coloured cabernet sauvignon, one possessed of opulent black-fruited heft and a slightly broody disposition. Ben Glaetzer's wines are no wallflowers. There is no expectation of pontificating on space or filigree. You just stare at the glass, google-eyed at its latent power and opulence. Not a herbaceous bone in this wine's torso. Just thick black fruits, licorice, earth, graphite, fine, sandy tannins and a smooth, hydraulically consistent flow of rich fruit far into the distance."
93 Point Rated James Suckling
"A balanced, fruity, textural and well-composed blend of shiraz and cabernet sauvignon with cassis, dark cherries, warm spices and dried flowers on the nose, following through to a full body with fine, firm tannins and a lovely kick of peppercorn to the fleshy berries. Chalky, flavorful finish."
