Curtis Family Vineyards Limited Series McLaren Vale Grenache 2015
Fine, elegant, restrained and with a touch of cedar, the nose shows estery floral/cherry fragrance, with an underlying hint of pepper: typical of concentrated Grenache . Oak plays a minor role in the background to allow the beautiful fruit to shine through. This wine is all about texture, length and balanced fruit. It has medium body in which the tannins are long and soft while the bright fruit provides persistence of mouth feel. Fruit flavours are in the cherry spectrum.
Curtis Family Vineyards Limited Series McLaren Vale Shiraz 2015
Deep dark purple in colour. The nose exhibits aromas of ripe blackberry and dark plum followed by some liquorice and confectionary notes. Full bodied and possessing a plump texture the palate delivers rich juicy flavours of ripe blackberry, dark chocolates, liquorice and spice. Soft velvety tannins. Good depth with medium to long aftertaste of blackberry, dark chocolate and spice. Wine was matured in a mixture of French and American oak barrels, ranging from new to 2 year oak.
The Colonial Estate Exile Barossa Valley Shiraz 2014
Ink like colour with purple edge. Alluring bouquet filled with liquorice, blackberry and dark plum fruit with layers of fennel spice and Smokey oak. Full bodied and highly concentrated fruit with a really plush texture. The fruit flavours of blackberry, dark plum all work within the framework, which is fleshy and opulent with a licorice character shining on the mid palate. There is a lovely spicy note along with subtle hint of fennel and oak. The tannins are velvety smooth which when allowed to open up and breathe illustrate the longevity possible with a long dark seductive finish which is all interwoven between a backbone of oak and tannin perfectly.
Evil Incarnate Shiraz 2016
Crimson with purple magenta hues. Expressive bouquet with dark berry fruit, some white pepper, vanillin oak and some further depth coming from chocolate and mocha notes. Quite a robust full flavoured Shiraz with blackberry the figurehead here whilst some alluring flavours of smoky oak, cinnamon, fruitcake and chocolate all intermingle through the middle palate before finishing with velvety smooth tannins.

These handcrafted wines showcase the best of the McLaren Vale Region. Fruit is from a combination of owned vineyards and premium McLaren Vale growers. The blend of individual vineyard and sub-regional characteristics is the key to the resulting style.
The Colonial Estate Exile Barossa Valley Shiraz 2014
The bulk of the vines are dry grown old vines, which are pruned severely and receive two runs of green harvesting finally producing one tonne to two tonnes per acre. Exile grapes are then hand picked and the grapes sorted. The wine is fermented in vats after extreme cold maceration. The wines have their malolactic in new French oak, and are thereafter in the same oak for 24 months prior to bottling with minimal filtration and then further aging in bottle.
Evil Incarnate Shiraz 2016
Select parcels of fruit were selected due to their intense fruit flavour and then were picked, transported to winery, crushed immediately. The skin and juice mix is allowed to warm naturally over several days after which it begins fermentation. Fermentation is held cool which helps to retain bright primary fruit characters in the wine. Following ferment, the wines are carefully pressed, separating them from the skins. The wine is then run down to oak barrels for maturation, before being blended, filtered and then finally bottled.

95 Points James Halliday Wine Companion
From 100yo vines, hand-picked and sorted, open-fermented, matured for 18 months in French hogsheads. Very good, bright, clear crimson colour; has managed to keep the oak subservient to the plum and red cherry fruit, fine-grained tannins providing texture and structure. Impressive stuff, good now or much later.
91 Points Patrick Eckel
The nose has new season raspberry with touches of red cherry that is framed amongst a brambly, ever so dusty backdrop. The palate is drying in terms of both the fine, tight knit tannins as well as the saliva drying acidity. This is all pitted against the sweet fruit versus savoury structure monologue that the wine manages to control. The finish is lean but maintains a brightness of fruit that drives a long and elegant finish.

60yo vines, hand-picked and sorted, crushed and destemmed, 14 days on skins, basket-pressed direct to new French hogsheads for 18 months maturation. Interesting use of a screwcap for this wine, and Diam for its siblings. The estate vineyard, the alcohol and the vinification are the same for all three, the major difference being the three vintages and length of time in new oak. This wine is full-bodied by normal standards, but has sufficiently good balance to justify the use of the word elegant.
91 Points Patrick Eckel, Winereviewer.com.au
A youthful light red in the glass with a nose that shows restrained blackberry and plum fruit with dark chocolate and sweeter oak coming through with time. The palate is tightly bound at this point in it’s development with juicy acidity and fine, drying dark chocolate laden tannins providing the scaffolding from which plum and dark cherry fruit unfurls.
