The Dalrymple Tasmania Pinot Noir 2023 is an elegant, site-driven wine sourced from select parcels in Pipers River and the Coal River Valley, two of Tasmania’s most highly regarded subregions. A La Niña weather pattern influenced the growing season, bringing cooler south-easterly airflows and higher rainfall in Coal River Valley, while Pipers River enjoyed a mild summer and long autumn with above-average temperatures and low rainfall. These contrasting conditions extended the ripening season, producing fruit of outstanding flavour intensity and structure, albeit at lower yields.
In the glass, the wine opens with lifted aromas of fresh cranberries, ripe tamarillo and toasted spice, evolving into darker layers of plum and earthy complexity with time. On the palate, the interplay of terroir is clear: Pipers River contributes focus, structure and vibrant acidity, while Coal River Valley adds softness and texture to the mid-palate. Dark fruit and savoury herbal notes intertwine seamlessly, carried by Tasmanian freshness and fine oak spice, leading to a lingering, elegant finish.
Crafted in small batches from multiple clones and vineyard blocks, the 2023 vintage is a finely balanced Pinot Noir that highlights the precision and diversity of Tasmanian terroir. Already acclaimed with 93 Points from Dave Brookes (Halliday Wine Companion) and 90 Points from Claire Nesbitt (JamesSuckling.com), this wine comes from a 5 Red Star Halliday-rated winery, reinforcing Dalrymple’s reputation as one of Tasmania’s finest producers.
This Pinot Noir is an ideal match for duck breast with cherry glaze, roast pork with crackling, mushroom risotto, or grilled Tasmanian salmon, where its dark fruit, savoury spice and bright acidity complement richly flavoured dishes.
93 Point Rated Dave Brookes Halliday Wine Companion
"Pinot noir from Pipers River, Coal River Valley and Ouse with varying amounts of whole bunch depending on the site. Garnet with wild strawberry, red cherry and red plum fruits with hints of struck flint, poached rhubarb, pomegranate, exotic spice, dried mountain herbs, wild flowers, gentle gamey notes and turned leaf litter. Some nice fruit concentration this year with some darker plum notes coming in on the palate, tight, chalky tannins and a bright, briny acid line. Finishes sapid with a sour cherry rush."
90 Point Rated Claire Nesbitt JamesSucking.com
"This soft and fruity red has aromas of strawberries, earl grey tea leaves, cherries and cinnamon. It’s medium-bodied with ripe tannins and a sweet-fruited finish."
