The 1888 O'Keefe Trail Heathcote Shiraz 2021 honours the pioneering legacy of Andrew O’Keefe, whose locomotive carried the first passenger train through Heathcote in 1888. Sourced from a single vineyard just outside the township and bordering the historic O’Keefe Rail Trail, this wine is grown in Heathcote’s ancient Cambrian soils — renowned for producing some of Australia’s most powerful and age-worthy Shiraz.
The vineyard’s north-east facing slopes allow for slow, even ripening, building concentration while preserving structure. In the glass, it reveals an inky black core with a dusty crimson rim. Aromas of liquorice, black cherry and cracked pepper rise confidently from the glass, layered with subtle vanilla oak and earthy undertones.
The palate is rich and commanding, delivering waves of blackberry and dark cherry wrapped in vanillin oak, spice and savoury depth. Fine-grained tannins provide impressive structure and length, creating a smooth yet powerful finish that lingers with classic Heathcote intensity.
Awarded an outstanding 95 Points and a Gold Medal at Wine Showcase Magazine, this is a bold yet balanced Shiraz that captures both regional character and historical significance in every glass.
Serve alongside roasted lamb shoulder, char-grilled rib eye, slow-braised beef cheeks or mature hard cheeses. Decant to reveal its full complexity.
